Ugh, Rowdy looks completely lost at this level in every aspect of the game. What was that?

Because why not:

Vlad, age 22
.336/.442/.664 1.106 OPS 202 OPS+

Barry Bonds, age 22

.261/.329/.492 .821 OPS 114 OPS+

Bonds never hit .300 until he was 25, and he was 27 before he broke 1.000 OPS.

Vlad might actually have a shot at the all time home run record.

Only 2 players are within 100 pts of Vladdy in OPS. Only 11 guys are within 200!

^^^to expand on Vlad being the greatest home run hitter of all time, possibly:
If he hits 50 dingers, he’ll have 74 career (one more than Barry’s best single roid-filled season - ominous!). He’d need 688 to tie the record, or 34.4 hr/season over 20 years.

If he got to 60 this year (Breaking Maris’ record would be awesome) the number drops to 33.9.

That’s not a bad futures bet, from someone who doesn’t gamble. I’d put money on that.

expecting a heavier guy to play close to 20 seasons is tough
500 HRs is extremely difficult - especially if you never juice

He got to 1B early, and I can see him being a full time DH by the time he’s 28.

Everything would have to go right.

We’ve seen this a lot before. Pujols, Prince, A-Rod, Miguel, etc. Only Arod even got close. It’s hard to have both that longevity as well as that insane peak necessary to get those numbers.

I love Vlad but being the home run king will be very unlikely. Bonds got much better when he hit his 30's Vlad is good, but come on. If Vlad juiced I would give him a chance.

Yup, there's a reason he's still not in the HOF. End of conversation.

Look, I’m not calling a shot or anything, but he’s young enough that he has a possible look at it.
As opposed to a 300 game winner, which may not happen for another 50 years.

Say Vlad looks at his numbers after his 24 or 25 year old season and sees he’s got a look at the record.

A shift to DH full time while he’s still younger than most guys still trying to break in, could save a ton of wear on his body.

It for sure won’t happen if he keeps doing the splits at 1st.
