Someone will make a stupid offer, thinking draft pedigree means anything. Please God, don't let it be the Flames.
Unless he comes for a seventh round pick, the risk is too high.
I don't get what people see in him, other than the fact he was drafted 2nd overall. What part of his game is so good that he's worth making a move for? Not a great skater. Doesn't exactly display crazy skill with the puck. Absolutely atrocious when it comes to a two way game, being completely void of any defensive awareness. And his GAF meter is always running near empty. What is it about Patrick that makes him so attractive, because every time I've watched him play in the NHL he is the worst player on the ice for his team?
|
I don't know that we have enough info on him to make a determination of what he is just yet. He was a typical high end draft pick when he first started with the Flyers. Had some glimpses of the pedigree, struggled at times as most teenagers do. Then he got sick and this past season was a disaster. That whole team was a debacle, much like the Flames.
So he may well be worth a look but as with anything....whats the cost?
His size, position and the fact he is a RH sure are intriguing though.
I do wonder if Vegas doesnt look at him though...the McCrimmon connection being the obvious reason.

I wasn't saying it was true, just saying that would have to be the argument advanced.
But if Monny doesn't play better than he did last year (presumably because his health doesn't improve), he is not worth his current cap hit. Because the majority of the points he put up last year was playing with Johnny. In his last about 22 games he collected, IIRC, 6 points, and if he's still the same player next year that he was at the end of the season, he's not getting top line and PP minutes, and his production will fall off the map. Monny's return to form is likley based simply on good health.
Patrick's ability to transform himself into a viable NHL hockey player is likely no more than a spin of the fantasy wheel.I think someone will pay a 2nd round pick to take that spin.

You've been on the pure hatred for Monahan train for quite a while now. Whats the story?
You can't honestly think that there are objectively equal odds for a consistent player returning to form after injury vs an unproven early developing prospect suddlenly blossiming late after suffering his own detailed injury issues, can you? It's way more of a "spin of the fantasy wheel".

I think he said that Patrick blossoming was the spin of the wheel, and Monahan getting back was based entirely on health.

With expansion draft looming, there’s more trade discussion developing around the NHL. The LA Kings could be a big player this offseason. The Kings are hoping to acquire two top 6 forwards through trade or free agency.

I wonder if LA is attempting to end their short rebuild so early because of pressure from Doughty and Co.

The Kings really don't have many quality forwards to protect so they should be able to leverage this situation. They can acquire two forwards and still not worry about exposing anyone that would be of huge concern.

My guess its Eichel,
Kings have the cap space, and they have the prospects, lots of draft picks.
Not sure if the Sabres will want an established player in return etc.

What’s the reason?
I wouldn’t mind him, but it would cost Tkachuk to get him. Blues could roll with ROR and Kyrou as their 1-2 punch.

That would be hilarious. I wonder if they’d run the deal past Doughty first.

Flames made a trade for Kadri and he and Gio had a similar history. Remember the Oilers getting Manning after McDavid called him “classless”.

Lol i forgot about this legendary oilers moment. Spitting in the face of their primadonna in order to bring in a failing out of the league defenseman he hates and who injured him intentionally because you desperately need defensive depth.
