This isn't good for Flames. The sign in treiliving's office of "just get in" will be even bolder and bigger.

Reminds me of Ruff with Buffalo or Trotz with Nashville, just a coach that seemly has a life position until he doesn't.

It sucks for the Flames but the Habs did better than the Flames, enough to get to the post season, and won Canada. Despite having some key injuries. This was *the year* for bragging rights. All Canadian division. One time only.

They’re still playing. Final four. They have won more rounds this year than the Flames have in what, 15 years?

Little decisions matter
Ouch

Flames didn't make the playoffs, but this has been perhaps the best playoffs outcome possible.

Oilers/leafs dumped in the first round, and the Habs going to ride this run to a bergevin extension... lol.

On the jets side of things, really not sure where they go from here. their strength is at forward, but it's been disappointing in 2 straight post seasons now. I realize sheiffle has been missing in both, but wheeler, Ehlers, laine/dubois, Conner, etc, they should have the depth where scoring shouldn't be the core issue.

I have a very love/hate thing for Maurice. With many good coaches likely available yet again this offseason, it really wouldn't shock me to see them try a different voice there.

Why exactly are Flames fans of all people making fun of a GM with perennial playoff success? The Habs making it to round 3 are a direct result of the moves he made in the last year

Bergevin built this team for the playoffs. They're big, strong, mean and they play good defense. They looked great early in the season, then cratered. They looked doomed after Price was concussed with a month left in the season.

Now..... Price is in Price mode. The kids look terrific. Corey Perry is doing Perry playoff things. They're mostly healthy (hope Petry is ok, worried he broke his finger) and they're playing a team game. Rolling 4 lines, everyone is on the same page. You don't have to be the best regular season team, you just need to roll at the right time. And they're doing it right now.

Everyone is saying they're screwed in the next round. They shut down the top goal scorer in the league in Matthews and held Marner to nothing. Wheeler and Dubois did eff all against them in round 2, you can't get a clear shot at the net right now.

Looking forward to whatever comes next. I wouldn't count them out.

Doesn’t perennial mean every year? Not out of the POs half the time?

Especially with a goalie like Price. Playoffs are a weird thing once a team gets that confidence out of the first round.

Yea, I wouldn't necessarily say "perennial" but at least they're capable of winning a round or 2 here n there...5 playoff series wins in the past 7 seasons (incl. this season).

Flames have won 1.

Yes, but we’ve all seen how they won those series and JIMO it has to do with price. Period.

Maybe perennial was a bad word choice, but since 2004 they've won 8 playoff series to the Flames 1, with 6 of those being under Bergevin. He's been more successful than any Flames GM in the last 30 years

A team who can’t even make playoffs in the North let alone win playoff rounds, who has a bottom 5 prospect pool has no place looking down on any GM

Bergevin has put his team in a much better place than Treliving now and moving forward

Oh right, the "they only made it because of their goalie" argument. Love that one. Shame on them for having Price as their goaltender.

Congrats man! You've been around these boards a long time, (and as far as I can tell) are one of the better non-flames posters.
Enjoy the run!

Just so I am clear, you are suggesting that the Habs have progressed to a true annual contender, and not a flash in the pan team whatsoever?

Ok. I am happy to agree to disagree. I do not think the Habs are an actual contender, nor will they be better next season, or the season after, with this run.

That being said, props to them and their fans. They should definitely be enjoying every drop of this run, just like flames fans did in 04.

The next round is a total crapshoot and will be unpredictable since these teams haven't played all season.

That said, a hot goalie is central to any playoff run, so I wouldnt count the Habs out.

Yeah....people hate the "get in and see what happens" mantra, but the fact is that its completely true. And among team management league wide, that is entirely the goal to start the year.....make the post season.

Having Price is obviously a huge benefit but they pay the man really well to do what he is doing. IMO he hasnt even had to be as great as he can because the 18 guys in front of him have been phenominal at making his job fairly easy. Everything is to the outside, its been impressive.

Happy for you Habby...and should Vegas get past the Avs, I will be cheering them on for yet another round. After that though all bets are off unless they face the Bolts.

This is arguably the lowest of low bars for an NHL GM.
