When you buy a PS5 game it comes with the PS4 version as well. You want to make sure you buy the PS5 version since there will be upgrades on it not available to the PS4 version even though both will work on the PS5 itself

Thanks for clearing that up. I had a bunch of PS4 games preordered on Amazon, that I promptly cancelled once I got a PS5, and ordered the PS5 versions. Was wondering if I should have kept the PS4 version after reading how they all had free upgrades. I'm assuming eventually PS5 games be solely for PS5 rather than have a lower res option for PS4.

to be honest, i've always thought GoW2 would not be out until mid/late 2022 considering we haven't seen any thing, not even a trailer.

What is more disappointing is that its cross gen...while sony has shown that the cross gen games can be very good, like spiderman and the upcoming HFW, it is still not as good as it could be if it were PS5 only...

still looking forward to seeing how it looks.

It is a bit interesting to see Sony backtrack a little bit on their "We believe in generations" stance.

Does make me wonder if backwards compatibility this gen might be a bit easier to do without hurting next gen quality.

Just the jump to 4K/60 from 1080p/30 is a big difference on resources and most games are developed this way now anyways with scalable resolution and textures.

So if you can make it run 4K/60 on PS5/Series X and 1080p/30 on PS4/One, then why not just have the game be cross gen and expand your potential install base.

On paper that makes sense. Sadly in practice it doesn't work that way. I think the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a good example, since they were careful to say "Up to 1080p/30fps" for PS4 and Xbox One base consoles. In practice though, there are tons of framerate dips and performance issues that make it a bit rough. This is a pretty common issue in most cross-generation titles and there isn't much incentive for them to make the previous generations smoother.

Even the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X aren't immune to these issues. In the Mass Effect example, I would have preferred if they didn't target 4k/30fps and 1440p/60fps but lowered it to 1440p/30fps and 1080p/60fps to improve the consistency of the game. On the PS4 Pro, I can only force the resolution to 4k or 1080p, not 1440p, so there's no way for me ty to find a nice middle ground.

the PS3 was a major issue with the backwards compatibility with the PS4 if i recall correctly...Whereas programming for the PS4 to PS5 has keep a lot of the overall programming approaches intact.

I don't know if its backtracking per se or simply extending the window for PS4 users, as the availability of PS5s have been a challenge.

I think we will know more with the next big sony event. As it stands now, there are only 2 PS5 exclusives w/o crossover: Returnal and Ratchet and Clank...

If there are more crossover games in 2022 beyond GoW/H:FW then perhaps people will be a little disappointed in Sony not going full on next game with their major franchises.

Just a heads up to anyone that has old Pokémon games, they are hot right now. Pokemon platinum is selling for around 2-250$. Went into video game traders with some of the kids old games and was surprised to hear the guy offer me over $400 trade credit on 6 games.

I think it's disappointing either way. Guerilla and Santa Monica are two out of three of Sony's premiere studios for really high level visuals - while Horizon 2 and God of War will both look great, it's annoying to consider we won't know what those teams can do without being held back by the PS4 until their next games, which will be what... 2025? Maybe? That's a long ass time into PS5's life cycle.

So we'll look to Naughty Dog's next game to really see what PS5 is capable of, and who knows when that will come.

Couldn't agree more. I know this is Sony's MO with new generations to release on both although at some point it would be nice for them to sack up and go exclusive with the newest gen.

I'm less and less excited for the next Battlefield with every leak. Sounds so disappointing so far. EA so out of touch.

Pending the real announcement next week, I'll give them some benefit of the doubt since nothing is official yet. But what I've seen is just...... bleh

Too fast paced and twitchy for my tastes. I liked it back in the day though

I'm a CoD campaign player, I don't do CoD online multiplayer.

I haven't played COD since WW2 and before that the last one I played was MW3 I think but the campaign is the only thing I care about.

I couldn't imagine spending $80 for CoD just to play the campaign. They're usually like 6 hours long.

Unless you're buying them much later on sale.

I’m not playing six hours of CoD in a single sitting, stretching it over several days makes it seem longer. $13.33 an hour for entertainment. And I can replay the campaign if I want to try a different approach.

So what about the leaks makes you less excited about battlefield? The near-future setting? Larger player lobbies? 5 screen shots? I'm interested in possibly hearing what I missed?

oh, for sure... i was hoping that either GoW or HFW would be PS5 only.

Both being cross gen is a disappointment for me... I am sure they will be very good, but they will be held back a little for PS4 though.

Hoping Sony has a summer event...if MS does well in the E3 event, I think Sony will have to show something this summer to counter it.

I am looking forward to the E3 event though; curious to see if MS does show something unexpected
