Sillinger reminds me of Scheifle, in that he's ranked around where we're drafting and I'm starting to hope we can draft him, but is the kind of player that a top 10 team is probably going to "reach" to get.

To clarify this isn't Pronman's mock I guess but rather a combined mock of their writers.
I think it’s going to happen.

Either way if Lambos is taken, we will know who is really in charge.

I am bouncing back between the two.

I was all for Lysell but Sandman has convinced me Sillinger is a good option.

Is it out of question to compare Lysell to Kasperi Kapanen?

Having finally caught up on all of Sandman's excellent contributions and looking at most of the kids who might fall to the Flames, my favourite at the moment is Coronato.

He's only 5'10" but should be a hefty 190 lbs by the time he's in the NHL, and his offensive stats are excellent. He doesn't seem to have skating issues like Sillinger apparently does (poor skating is a pet peeve of mine), and the fact he's not big means he's not just feasting on a bunch smaller teenagers. Plus he seems to be versatile - kind of a plug and play offensive talent - and is also a riser in this draft.

He strikes me as one of those kids that - if you pass on him - people will look back and wonder why teams didn't go for someone whose talent seemed so obvious at the time.

Maybe. A few scouting reports I have read aim higher. Like Marner and Panarin.

I'm thinking he has a higher motor and less IQ (meaning it's still good but not 10m a year good if you know what I mean) than those two though. He's pretty tenacious.

At any rate, a pure RHS shooter like Guenther, Lysell or Lucius is exactly what the doctor ordered for this organization.

Tell me you don't want this kind of skating on the Flames:

Coronoto skates like Johnny, shoots like Lindy:

Also this announcer is absolutely awful. Reminds me of the jacked up Xtreme Sports D bags from Harold and Kumar.

The last thing this team needs is another small player. Not really invested in anyone, but I want someone with at least NHL size. No more small to smallish players. Our minor league system is already stacked with small players and the NHL team is already too reliant on small players. We need some beef with talent and that can skate. Preferably right hand shooting beef that can skate. With that said, I fully expect the Flames to pick a 5'10 170 pound left shooting LW, because Flames.

I agree, at least to an extent. Size and position are two things that should probably be considered. The Flames already have smaller guys like Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Phillips, Pettersen, Pelletier. The Flames deserve some credit, they're great a drafting and developing small wingers.

However, I'm pretty sure Pelletier is the only sub-5'11 player they've drafted in the first round in a very long time. He was a very late first. Guys like Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Pettersen and Phillips were all late picks. So I don't know if this part of your statement is true.

Finally, I think that with Sutter, size does matter more. I think this is especially true on the back end. Look at Tampa, small up front, huge on the back. It seems to work. Vegas is similar. I think size matters slightly more for defensemen. I'm not too concerned about drafting a smaller winger, because if they turn out to be stars, the Flames can just trade them. As long as the players are good, a surplus of high-skill wingers is a good problem to have.

I hear you to an extent.

But watching Mangiapane light up the Worlds today (this week) is certainly a good reminder on how the scouting staff is putting skill ahead of size later in the draft.

If that's the plan though, better not to add a tiny player in the first round too ... so sure.

First end foremost, We need someone who will play with our first round pick, regardless of size. We picked Greg Nemisz in the first round in 2008 and watched Tyler Ennis go one pick later. Too many times we’ve passed on smaller guys and prioritized size (see kanzig, Keegan and Smith, Hunter). We’ve turned that around in recent years so I have more faith that the scouting team will pick the best player. While you can’t build a team of smurfs, you need players who can play today’s game and not have a bunch of lumbering giants because size.

looks like some pretty impressive players will be available at 12.

Sillinger, McTavish, Lysell, Chaz...

Yep. Those 4, plus the top 8 (Power/Benier/Eklund/Hughes/Clarke/Edvinsson/Guenther/Johnson) means we should be grabbing a great prospect. And that’s not even including Wallstedt or Coronato.

Yeah, I'm starting to think Sillinger, Lucius, Lysell and Coronato aren't actually that much worse than Berniers, Johnson, Guenther, and Eklund. This top 8 tier might not deserve to be quite as solidified as it is.

Sillinger, Lucius, Lysell and Coronato have question marks, but I wouldn't be that surprised if one of them ended up being one of the best forwards in the draft. The question is which one.

I must be becoming cynical because that Lysell package was a little underwhelming for me.

Central scouting has McTavish ahead of Beniers and Guenther.

I think you might be onto something that they players are not that much apart.

I would have enjoyed Coronato's video a lot more without the grunting of that announcer. Cringe.

Back to the kid -- what a great release he has, and he seems to drive into the scoring areas.
