They were 2 points from being the team that took out Toronto.
Those floater efforts mid-season against Ottawa including that matinee can't happen next season.

Country club alive and well it seems.

Am I misreading Gaudreau? From the article I took it that he would normally already be back training by now or back this week if he only takes a couple of weeks off.

I think “a couple weeks” is doing a fair bit of work in that quote. And there’s training and there’s TRAINING. I read an old article from 2015 about both Gaudreau and Gio training and it was pretty apparent that Gio was a beast and Johnny needed help.
There’s some pretty hokey writing in that article (sorry if anyone here wrote it). “Retina-searing” stats?

I think people are reading too much into this.
This team has plenty of issues, but I don't think fitness is one of them

When the coach spends a good portion of his (post game ) interviews addressing lack of pace and tempo, as well as quality of commitment to playing hard shift to shift....
Is it really that large a leap of logic to believe that he may be very concerned and adamant about addressing fitness levels?

Wonder what is the start date for Andersson
He seems to be out of gas most of the time

Yeah, Sutter himself said the Flames struggled to keep pace with other teams. I think this would explain a lot considering they couldn't sustain come backs. Players can probably be fit and still have poor endurance levels.

Also that article was from before the bubble tournament. So it's all relative, they may have been in "great shape" compared to what they thought they would be after a layoff.
Also, they may have been in great shape in July 2020 hence they won a playoff round.
They didn't look like they were in great shape this past season. They came out flat and if it wasn't for Markstrom, they would have been in a huge hole.

Pretty telling that he'd admit allot of guys haven't seen this before by one of the coaches they've managed to sack in this past few years.
After hearing.....they thought it would be easier coming from Lindholm.
Sounds like an entitled country club atmosphere.....yeah i put in the work Last year or I earned my merit kind of bull####.
Resting on past accomplishments means you'll start with nothing and end up with nothing if you don't try and always improve.
This is what Sutter is talking about. He's not here to coach losers and he made that pretty damn clear to me from his first go around .
I sure hope these guys will commit , be accountable and not just rest continually on mediocrity.
The whole " we thought it would be easier" doesn't at all sit well with me and I don't want any of those players on our team.
Watching players who once played here excel and contribute to their new teams makes me crazy.
Tells you all you need to know about the attitude and lack of winning culture here.
Time to give a F
