I'd do it. Marner has some of the top offensive potential in the entire league, and there are plenty of examples of players who took a couple cracks before warming up to playoffs.

He’s had 5 years now. Time is whipping by.

TBF, he’s had decent production in their limited time last year (4 points in 5 games) and also in his first few years. I didn’t watch them much so I can’t tell what his impact was over and above the points.

He’s a very similar player to Gaudreau but IMO maybe a little better in terms of speed and shot. Equal in playmaking and stick handling. And obviously a fair bit bigger (but a small 6 footer).

Talking to some Leaf fans at work today the Marner complaints sure sound the same as Flame fans have with Gaudreau when it comes to inability to elevate in the playoffs and being rendered invisible in the long physical series.

Eklund has a post about Seth Jones and mentioned the Flames were poking around at the deadline along with the Leafs and Kings. Flyers are definitely interested heavily and he heard that Jones might want to play back home in Denver which won’t make sense cap wise for the Avs

That's Treliving's MO though, ask everyone about everything. He reminds me of my son with the remote, he doesn't care about what's on, he cares about what else is on.
As for spending assets on high end players...no. This team has tried that over the years and it hasn't worked, instead they should try and get their own high end players through the draft. Again, this team isn't 1 or 2 pieces away from being a contender. Stop the "make the playoffs at any cost because anything can happen" mentality. Start over.

A lot better defensively.

But, I remember back to his WJC year when he and Strome were the key guys and just couldn't deliver when it really mattered.

I find that hard to believe but if true I think Tkachuk would be a player of interest to them.

Adding a Marner would be great. But it would likely cost the Flames Matthew Tkachuk and something else and I wouldn't be ok with that. The Flames probably need a power forward like Matthew Tkachuk more than they need 2 Johnny Gaudreau types. Marner would definitely help drive another scoring line, but I'm pretty iffy on his playoff contributions. We also have enough guys who can't elevate their play in the playoffs too. Could use some players who thrive in the post season if we want to get to where we want to be.

I would think it would be a case of trade and re-signing.

For any trade for Seth Jones

probably, point is though he is not a UFA so he wasn't a rental this year. Calgary would be interested 100% IMO

Especially if they think they are losing Gio

Treliving even spoke around the deadline about being involved in conversations about acquiring players. Jones is a long-term piece, so it wouldn't shock me at all if there were talks.

The defensive group is interesting to me. It's pretty much devoid of offensive talent moving forward (Giordano being our best, and him entering the last year of his contract and getting on in years), but also has some good young players.

None of Andersson, Hanifin, or Valimaki have really shown an ability to produce at a high offensive level...but then again, neither has Jones. Going into next year, the Flames definitely need to find a way to get more offense from their blue line.

He is vastly overpaid for being on a 2nd contract but that is on Dubas.

Tremendous hockey player who hasnt figured out the playoff thing yet is all. We have a couple guys on this team in the same boat.

			Re: Seth Jones
It's Eklund reporting it. It's made up. Never happened IMO.

But my problem with it was that Treliving would make a blockbuster deal when the team wasn't even in the playoffs. Not his style, again IMO

Jones 57 point season wasn’t high end? Or 46 in 75 which is basically a 50 point season? Jones is an all around superstar on a bad team. Injuries might be his only concern
