Using lights to attract fish is illegal, in Alberta (not sure about other provinces / states). Fishing at night is not. Some species of fish are most active after dark and as Huntingwhale said, night fishing is a lot of fun. Not trying to derail the thread so regardless of the legalities, I doubt I'd be planning a fishing trip while my team is in the Stanley Cup playoffs, assuming this tweet was from last year.

An underrated move that doesn't get the hate it deserves was when he signed Martin Gerber when the team was already out of the playoffs and they had CUJO/Pogge to send them spirilling down the standings. Instead, he signs Gerber for no reason, and he plays better than any Leaf goalie and their draft pick got worse.
 |
That turned out to be an awesome move though. He wanted B. Schenn, but got Kadri instead who I would want over Schenn anyday. Also having B Schenn and not the Flyers probably would have not made the JVR trade possible, which lets be honest here was a complete steal.

Then you know a whole bunch of stupid people. The team is not garbage, they are just not above an average team yet. Still building. It happens. The Hawks were a joke for years, LA was a joke for year, and Edmonton was also a joke for............oh wait

Ha..this thread ages like fine wine. Love it.
The players can say all they want about not thinking about previous collapses, never getting past round one, etc. That's bs, it creeps in, especially after losing a game or two, or three, lol...and then it's for sure in their heads. Almost becomes self fulfilling prophecy I think.

In any case, I love it. Best case scenario these playoffs so far with Flames out.

I’ll never get over the Leafs fan who told me Marner was better than Johnny. Johnny last playoffs had more goals than Marner has had the past two playoffs

Man Toronto short 8 draft picks in the next two drafts and out in the first round.

Can't blame them for seeing this is an all in year ... they have the star power, the support and the weak division, but yikes.

Will be interesting to see how they over react.
Because they should literally do nothing and roll into the next year and have a go at it again.

This was a fluke. Montreal is trash and got lucky.

My leafs buddy at work and I were chatting about this today. On the other hand, what the hell was Dubas to do? Not try and take advantage when his team seemed to clearly be a cut above everything else in the division for the regular season? He had to go all in, though he should be pretty damn glad he didn't give up 1 or 2 next year in the process lol. All in all I think the GM made the right moves for the situation, but the team/ players collapsed in spectacular fashion.

I admit this was the only time I have ever been disappointed Toronto failed again because I wanted Joe to get his SC. The miserable Leaf fans give me a smile though.

Although a 1st and a 4th for foligno was pretty odd value then and seems terrible in retrospect. He's a .5ppg player with 1-2 better seasons that were pretty far removed.

Agreed, what an absolutely ridiculous overvaluation of a player, who did nothing for them.

I don't have the stats in front of me, but I read an article a while back that showed the impacts of deadline acquisitions often didn't remotely match the draft/trade capital spent on them.

If you're going to steal someone else's joke (that's already been posted) you should at least credit the source or acknowledge you saw it elsewhere.

I can't really fault Dubas for going all in seeing the North Division should have been the easiest route to the Semi Finals that the Leafs will ever have. Personally I wouldn't overreact as they are earlier in their build than say the Flames with their two top forwards still under 25 years old but they will have to sort out the goaltender position which as we know in Calgary isn't easy.

The guy that has always been fingered as the forward to move to re-shape things is Nylander - but he was actually by far the most effective one in the series. Trading Matthews or Marner also seems foolish.Chances are the team comes back largely in tact.
I would love to see Nylander with the Flames. Always had a soft spot for his pop - even though he was inconsistent and lazy at times.
