depends on what you're looking for. Wii is fun for hours, but with nintendo's history, current and future games will be pretty cartoony, though non stop fun (i can't wait for mario kart!). as for 360 and ps3 i am of no help the games look great, i know that much.

If you're into sports and mature games and like HD graphics then get the 360 or PS3
If you like games that both you and your kids can play and dont care too much for graphics then the Wii would probably be your best choice.

I've been thinking about going next-gen soon, and am leaning towards xbox 360. I would've thought there would be a price drop by now though. Hopefully they drop the price soon, its still a bit too pricey for my liking.

I've got a 360. It's been treating me well. I typically play shoot'em ups and the xbox is well suited for that.
EDIT: My two favourite games for it are Gears of War and Lost Planet. Most haves in my mind.

There hasnt been a price drop but there's been alot of bundles that make it's value greater. Watch for Futureshop and Best Buy's $50 off a $500 purchase too which is what I got when I got mine.

In which case, you can play those games in the Wii's virtual console which also features NES, Neo-Geo, SNES, Genesis, TurboGrafx 16, etc.
Also, the Wii's graphics are heavily underrated. If you take a look at Resident Evil 3 on the GameCube, the Wii can have amazing realistic graphics. Just you don't see it with the early generation of games. Wait until the heavy developers get into it and they've all said they were since Wii outsold PS3 and 360 this month and they can see ownership there. Plus it's easier and cheaper to develop for the Wii.
Best game selection right now and traditional games are probably on the 360 though.

I've got a 360. Rainbow Six Vegas was a great single player, but I'm finding the multiplayer to be some of the best since Goldeneye.

Xbox 360. It's starting to hit its stride now with lots of awesome games coming out.
Wii has potential, but all the games coming out now have kind of gimmicky controls. Look for it to get better when stuff like Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy, and Metroid come out.
PS3 is overpriced and there's no good games. Pass on it.

Not if you are using an HD display. I have both the Wii and the PS3, and the Wii looks awful in comparison on the plasma. Granted, the Wii will get better as the optimize the graphics, but so will the PS3. The Wii will always be substandard SD.
Unfortunately, I havent had the time to play either system enough. But, for the record, I've used the PS3 for about 80 hours and the Wii for about 10. On the other hand, my wife uses the Wii when she has friends over, but will not touch anything to do with the PS3. If you have younger kids to play with, say under 12, then that probably dictates you should get the Wii.
I thought I would play the Wii, especially with Zelda, but the constant reading of all the speech-text and poor SD graphics really turned me off. It was probably made worse by the fact that I had just come from a 100 hours of Oblivion on my PC.
The Wii is cheaper, but the PS3 includes a Blu-Ray player which has been awesome to have. I've probably used the PS3 more for playing Blu-Ray movies than games.

The Wii isn't even close to next gen graphics, I love the system to death but it just isn't.
The system compliments an XBox 360 perfectly though IMO. Get a Wii60!

Nintendo reps have hinted at HD in the future for the Wii.
And I all most of my games on PC anyway. I guess I would hate playing SD games on an HD screen as well. I can't stand low res gaming on my monitor.

I've seen that $50 off online, but I read the small print and thought it said it can't apply to video game consoles. Apparently it does though..I'll keep an eye out for it again.

As much as I want a PS3 (MGS4, F1 racing, Heavenly Sword, Lair, SOCOM 4, FF13, Killzone etc etc), it's just not worth the money at the moment, with Resistance currently being the only game worth a purchase IMO. Sooner or later the big guns will start coming out, and you'll want to play them, you just can't beat Sony's massive 3rd party support, but right now it's not worth it. So if you want next gen right now, then go 360 or the Wii.
If you can wait on next gen, I'd even go as far as saying if you've never had a PS2, get that instead of everything else, if you're a gamer, PS2 will not dissapoint you.

I've actually considered picking up a PS2 or old Xbox to hold me over for a bit..the games are so freakin' cheap right now..you can catch up on some of the good titles you missed without breaking the bank. XBOX 360 would cost me around $600 once I add a game or two, accessories, taxes. PS3, I won't even think about it.
