Just continues to build the confidence of a player still on the rise.

I definitely see your point. I don't know if the Worlds are a larger stage than the NHL. I also have my questions about the QoC. If it builds his confidence that's great.

I have a hard time seeing Canada in the quarter finals this year. As a result, Mangiapane's biggest game would be against Finland. Again if he gets confidence from playing 4 games, that's great.

Where else is he supposed to expand his standing, Olympics, Canada Cup? You know he is not making those teams so his international experience will start in this smaller tourney that guys like Ovechkin, Crosby, Hall, McDavid and others have played in. I really don't understand what your point is.

Well you should read my previous posts then. It's the same when Valimaki was tearing the Finnish league a new one. I don't think this tournament is a good place or indicator of player development. It is a quick tourney, a quick experience, and I don't think it will really affect Mangiapane's development in one way or another.

If they beat Finland in regulation they are in. 12 points.

You dont think going overseas and sliding onto TC and emerging as, literally, their best player wont give him a huge boost of confidence which, in return, he will bring with him to camp in Sept?

Yes, this will help him.

Germany have the tiebreak over Canada. If they win one of the games against USA or LAT in regulation they are in. Kazakhstan have a point on Canada, if they win their game against NOR in regulation, they are in.

Am I missing something here?

i know its Italy, but that's still an impressive game...

I wonder if he has another gear in his game in the NHL...confidence is such a huge thing; hopefully they set him up with some guys that can help him...

I know they are different positions, but he compares pretty favorably with a guy like Cirelli in the last few year, though Cirelli is younger, he has more games.

but PPG is close with Cirelli at 0.53 and Mangi at 0.46 and with SH% with Cirelli at 14.1% and Andrew at 16.2%

TB has a lot more offense talent however, but I don't know TB that well to know usage...

Those were games against Norway, Kazakhstan, and Italy. How many NHLers do they have between them?

If it will give him a huge boost, that's awesome. I think he is well aware of who he is playing against. If a Flame had a great game in an exhibition game with AHLers I would also take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah I'm really hoping Mangiapane would find another gear too. I really like his game already! I hope he becomes a little more effective at staying on his skates, but aside from that I have no complaints about his game this year.

Yeah, I agree with you that the better comparison for Mangiapane is a guy like St. Louis as they're both muckers who have zero issues battling in the corners and probably come out ahead in those 50/50 battles more often than not. I actually also don't think it would be that bad with him and Johnny on the same line as he has the talent to play with a skilled guy like Johnny and they'll gravitate to different areas of the ice naturally. And while Mangiapane isn't the biggest of guys, he plays like he is, so it doesn't matter.

Sutter to Mangiapane when Johnny comes off the ice: Heyyyy come out and play!

You just have to know Buffalo is going to want Mangiapane included in any trade for Eichel

Small tournament update;

Canada CAN make the playoffs, but their chances aren't fantastic.

Group B Standings are as follows:
Finland 15
US 12
Kazakstan 10
Germany 9
------
Latvia 9
Canada 9
Norway 5
Italy 0

Relevant games remaining:
Monday:
US-GER
NOR-KAZ

Tuesday:
CAN-FIN
GER-LAT
US-ITA

Regulation win is 3 points, OT/SO win is 2 points, OT/SO loss 1 point, so Canada can get to 12 points if they win their last game in regulation.

First tie-breaker is head-to-head games. Canada has already lost to Germany, Latvia and the US, but they have beaten Kazakstan. (I haven't done all the math, but I think Canada has little chance of winning on second or third tie-breakers.)

Since Finland has already guaranteed their playoff spot, they're probably not going to bring their A-game against Canada, so winning that last game is very doable, but they'll need some help. It's also possible that Canada is out tomorrow and the last game is meaningless.

Yeah whichever team wins between Germany and Latvia in regulation will finish ahead of Canada. I guess we'll be cheering for OT. I think it mostly comes down to if Kazakhstan can win in regulation or not.

It's awesome Kazakhstan has done so well.

Hope they continue with that success. They deserve it!

WOW
that second Mangi Assist was lit. That's the type of confidence play I hope to see him make in the NHL next year. And stayed on his feet through multiple hits.
