If I remember correctly, the starting pitcher often gets to choose the uniform. Wondering if Ray thinks the darks are more flattering with the tight pants.

Quoted for the belly laugh!

Those pants get tighter by the start. I'm afraid of what seasons end will look like.

Amazing awareness by the batter to not just run into the tag and bait the first baseman to make that throw. Baseball can be such a cerebral game.

All the 1st baseman had to do was touch the base!

What a debut for Manoah. That was just awesome.

Pearson has that in him too. Hopefully he comes up later and pulls it off.

Too bad Ray had to have his worst start in quite a while. A sweep would have been nice.

Amazing awareness? More like the most brain dead play we've seen maybe in decades.

There was 2 outs, him not getting tagged out means nothing because even if the runner crosses home before he does get tagged, the run doesn't count unless he reaches first safely.

The first baseman could have watched the runner cross home, decide to walk back up to first and step on the bag and boom 3 outs, no run scores.

Well that's a big day for the Jays. Manoah was awesome and we only went through two pitchers in the bullpen. 2 out of 3 on the road against the Yankees. Nice work!

"I'm happy to say today is the best he's felt the whole time," Montoyo said, adding that Springer caught fly balls and did some throwing exercises Thursday.

The Blue Jays signed Springer to a club-record six-year, $150-million contract in free agency but nearly two months into the season he has been limited to only four games and none since May 2.

His current injury is a quad issue, similar to the one he was hindered by in early April. Despite the positive-sounding update Thursday, Montoyo had nothing specific to say about Springer's timeline to return to the lineup.

"You know how we go, we go day-to-day, tomorrow he might not feel as good," Montoyo said. "But as of today, with what he did, that's the best he's felt which is good news."

In these 7 inning games, id like to see this change. One time, just once, each team can fast forward over three of their hitters. Instead of 7, 8, 9 coming up in an inning...ffwd three spots and 1, 2, 3 are up.

I agree it was ridiculously stupid by 1B. My comment was directed at the runner who was able to bait him into a rundown. Must have had some intel that 1B was not the sharpest tool in the shed.

It's going to be interesting to see what this regime does at the deadline this year. This team clearly has the guns to be dangerous, especially if healthy and even more especially if Manoah shows he's the real deal as we move forward.

So will Atkins use some prospect capital to try to add and stay in the fight? Or will continue to be patient and let the farm continue to develop in a season where despite being a very good team, they may still be only the 4th best team in the division?

Also, Pearson pitched 3 innings in AAA today.

He recorded 9 outs and 7 of them were Ks.

Unfortunately he also gave up 2 walks, 4 hits and 4 earned runs.

It wasn’t really that smart by the runner because the run wouldn’t have counted (even when the runner from third crossed home) if the catcher had been able to throw to first because it was a force play with two outs. It’s the same as if a runner had crossed home on a ground ball to third prior to it being caught by the first baseman on the throw from third. The run still doesn’t count.

The dumbest part of the play was not having the second baseman cover first.

The problem with the AL east is the "we're a really good team but still not top 2 in our division" can easily be an issue through an entire build, no matter how good you get, so if you're in the vicinity of 2nd I think you should always be making some sort of push.

Red Sox and Yankees will have a couple of down years every so often as they reload, but usually not at the same time, mostly they will both be mammoths and the Rays seem to swing about 50 times higher than their payroll every so often as well.

Don't get me wrong I see the value in not going in this year as we're not there yet in this build. Just stating that that should be the only reason to not make moves. The Yankees and Red Sox shouldn't factor into whether you try to load up and make the playoffs in any given year.

There likely won't be many (possibly any) years within this build where the Yankees and Red Sox aren't going to be extremely difficult to get past, and the Rays will do their Rays thing some years and make it even harder, and you could go through an entire core of amazing players without ever loading up if your requirement is being 1st or 2nd to spend money and assets at the deadline.

I think the decision about the rebuilding process should hinge a lot on the progress of Manoah and Pearson. If they think they are legit rotation guys right now, they should buy - within reason. Don't burn down the farm but don't be afraid to move some prospects to address needs (3rd base, catcher, bullpen, 5th starter).

If Manoah and Pearson are going to be a year away, you can add some value in those positions at the deadline but maybe do most of the filling in the offseason via free agency and trade.

The Jays are pretty stocked at Catcher and SS throughout the organization, and happen to be two premiere positions that other teams will be after.

Some players will be blocked in our pipeline and I think if it makes sense to deal one or two, to get some pitching help then I am all for it. Ideally only for controlled contracts beyond this season. Rentals don’t make sense unless the cost is low.
