If 2016-present has taught me anything, it's that vile and despicable people have absolutely no problem posting racist BS on Twitter under their own name. They revel in it. Many of them even put "Deplorable" in their profile description like it's a badge of honour.

Saw it last night. Good for him for calling people out and standing up for himself.

It’s sad that he should have to do that. But that’s what the internet brings sometimes. Free speech with zero accountability. Lets people hide behind a keyboard.

Bet they wouldn’t say those things to his face.

That is true but we are talking about a fan base that is very overbearing with players and burned Pronger's rental furniture.

Good for him for speaking out. It needs to be called out every time, but too often people feel like they don't want to rock the boat. His statement eloquently made the point that it can't be tolerated, but he also emphasized the good in people and unity.

As a player, he went through some growing pains this year, but I think he has a the potential to have a long productive career.

I love CP but the amount of hate spewed, tolerated and even encouraged on CP is disgusting. Perhaps many CP posters think they are doing it 'in fun'. Or that it's justified or whatever other reasoning that promotes a culture of hate.

Okay. Thats a pretty strong take in a thread that seems completely unified in support of a player during a difficult time regardless of the fact that he plays for our most hated rival.

Sadly, you would be surprised how many.

It's pretty well known that Lethbridge has it's fair share of drug issues, and the number of people who comment on facebook with their real names that those users need to go back to the reserve and die there is absolutely disgusting.

Unified support of a player because of racism seems rather hypocritical when this forum actively engages in hate. Whether it's individuals, teams, cities, etc.

Can you really not see the difference between hating on a hockey team and being a racist jackass or are you really that thick?

No good point can come from comparing racism to hating on a rival team/city.

Intentional or not, you're reducing the impact of racism to something comparable to good-natured fun in team sports, since no one in their right mind is going to buy the idea that hating on the Oilers is as morally horrible as being a racist.

This is a terrible post.

No need to insult... there's enough of that going around.
I'm commenting on the acceptance on CP for a variety of hate.

I think if you can't tell the difference between sporting rivalries and disgusting racial hatred that's on you.

When you compare the two it trivializes the racism, IMO.

You've just accused an entire community of expressing hate. I expect you're prepared to back that up without conflating racial and ethnic hatred with sports fanaticism.

There will always be the David Dukes and Kevin Johnstons of the world, but there is plenty of hatred spread under false aliases, especially on Twitter. Verifying every single account might reduce the volume, but you're right: people unashamed of their hatefulness will never just go away.

What examples can you think of for a "variety of hate" that we as most CPers partake in? I am not a hateful person but I can hate on another player from another team for their actions in sport. Comparing that to racism is a reach. Sorry but I don't come to CP because I like to join in on the "hate" that is going around, this is BS.

Terrible post.

Yeah.

Gonna need some examples with citations of “hate” being tolerated on CP.
