Depends on the sneakers. This isn't that casual a suit but it's good.

This sort of thing is fine, minus the scarf.

This is pushing it but still acceptable given the execution.

Also, I can't imagine doing any job, whether my corporate manager role or hands-on work without a watch. Who wants to take out your phone? That's so impractical.

The other side of style is the EDC crowd which could be a completely different thread. I won't go out in anything without a pocket knife or a multitool for instance. My VP always has a knife on his suit somewhere.

This thread reminds me how far I’ve fallen, from suit and tie everyday to jammies til noon upgraded to jeans and a tee shirt. Every once in a while I vow to dress like an adult but it doesn’t last long.

I do like my tan Fluevogs though.

When I see well dressed people with fitbits or apple watches on, it kills the look IMO; especially at formal events where you really don't need any smart watch features.

You spend all this time and money creating your individual style, then put on a watch that screams I'm one of the sheep.
Celebrities wear expensive suits and Apple watches all the time. Style is how much confidence you have in your overall image and you can roll whatever you want. There's no set rules. Socks used to be mandatory with suits and shoes too and then someone decided not to do that and it became trendy.

I mean damn, I'm wearing a 1940s Tudor Oyster right now and damn, I am tempted to go get an Apple watch just because my VP showed me how he is able to FaceID unlock his phone while wearing a mask.

“Mr. Corsi, your campaign against good modern fashion is a runaway freight train, how does it feel to be so out of touch?”

I think you have some good advice for older, more reserved gentlemen. But for the under 40 crowd who aren’t afraid to be a bit more exciting with some great fashion choices, you’ve got it wrong.

Okay, Cliff. Sometimes people just want to know what time it is. When theatres open up again, go to one, and see how many different people in the audience check their phone for the time, text, or email. Without putting in any effort, I could come up with about 50 reasons for wanting to know the time. Movie started late, you have to pick your kids up at school, doctor's appointment is upcoming, movie sucks, you have a curfew, boyfriend went to the bathroom and hasn't come back in a really long time, want to know how long it's been since you last checked the time, just want to know, etc.

You could replace theatre in your post with almost any scenario. Who needs to check the time at work? Get a more interesting job! Who needs to check the time at a restaurant? Get better food! Who needs to check the time at the Saddledome? Cheer for a better team!

Er, nothing in that post is "for older, more reserved gentlemen", much less anyone over 40. The question was whether you can wear sneakers with a suit. My answer is "yes".

If you're referring to the point where I say "don't wear a ball cap with a suit", that's just common sense.

I guess you could, if you wanted to be purposely ridiculous.

I’m sorry I didn’t more seriously entertain your silly reason for needing an analog watch and my flippant tone upset you so. Yes, everyone go out and buy an analog watch so you can check the time respectfully half way through John Wick 4.

My original point was that it’s an entirely impractical buy for the sake of fashion or flair, and not a good recommendation for that purpose, which is the point of the thread. If you like a watch, have a watch. Live your life. Just don’t go buying one for the sake of adding something to an outfit.

I guess style depends on what does or doesn't look good to you. I tend to agree with corsi on a lot of his points. It also boils down to whether you want to look "fashionable" vs. "Stylish".

That said, you wanna wear an apple watch with Air Jordans, a suit and a ball cap to your cousin's wedding? Go for it. I, Corsi and all the old dudes there will probably laugh at you.

I've had the black cap-toes forever. Great business shoe.

Yeah, I don't think it's fair to swipe at all the activity trackers with a broad brush. The fundamental issue (at least for me) has always been contrasting colors that clash with the ensemble.

For me, this going back beyond activity trackers. Remember those yellow Livestrong bracelets that were kinda faded and dirty? Those always seemed to clash with everything.

For sure, this whole thread is light hearted and people can wear whatever they want. I have a smart watch myself that I wear golfing, running or maybe with a t shirt on a day off when I don't want to bash around my good watches.

But in the interesest of style policing, spending $800 for hand crafted leather shoes, or $3000 on a bespoke suit and not appreciating the art of hand crafted mechanical watches is inconsistent in my view.

Might as well not spend the money on any of those things then, and just go made in china everything.
