"Got a DUI, blew positive"

now before I get banned from CP for getting a DUI this is hypothetical

Odd phrasing but its not like Ron hasn't reached for a joke before

I've never heard that phrasing. Either way in my view MacLean is not a "believable witness".

Just retire Ron. You had your run.

I guess I'll believe him because it's not like he has a history of saying this kind of stuff the way Cherry does but... yeah. Still makes no sense.
Yeah, the story is kinda lame, but it causes no harm to say “OK, Ron, all good”.

The explanation is perfectly fine and sensible.

He didn't say 'positive for rum', he said 'positive for something', which could very well mean he was joking that Bieksa is high (and in a joking sense, I agree with him).

The words were unfortunate (though not a big deal, IMO), but the explanation makes perfect sense.

Even if it didn’t make sense, it doesn’t really matter.

Ron literally said he meant the rum in his b.s. apology.

I actually don't get what he said. It didn't make any sense to me.

Ya I think he just stumbled through an awkward joke that didn’t land or make sense. He might be a big of an idiot, but hardly needs to be analyzed as a homophobe.

He would apologize for anything asked of him whether he did it or not just to keep his job.

Bieksa said “I’m positive” first so Maclean tried to tie it together as positive for somethin. It was a joke that fell flat. Trying to make it make sense is senseless.

Agreed.

I think you have to be searching for cancelling people if one actually reviews the context in earnest and believes it’s an aids or homophobia joke.

Like I said, I'll take his word for it. But basically, what we're saying here is that Ron haphazardly and clumsily threw some words together into a sentence that he just sort of hoped might work as a joke, and just by pure coincidence, that particular arrangement of words did in fact form a coherent, functioning joke that - unintentionally - happened to be utterly horrifying when taken at face value.

Which is... astounding. But I guess that's what happened.

No it was completely incoherent either way you splice it. It’s not like it rolled off the tongue naturally either way.

You also make it sound like it was a planned joke and took time to analyze it.

Bieksa said something about testing positive and Ron tried to square peg an inside joke into a round hole.

Just like the rest of his ####ty jokes. He was fun and funny a bunch of years ago. His not being funny anymore doesn't help. Just give Amber the job and let Ron do hockey night in Canada once a year with some hometown stuff if they plan on keeping that around.

I never know what to expect from you and it's wonderful. Do you white knight yourself and defend the gay population dying from aids or do you support a weasel of a privileged white man who maybe made an off the cuff joke?

I'm surprised to hear the gay community means little to you

I like Ron Maclean. He’s very nice in person. Heard him and Cherry at a conference years ago where they just sat on stage chatting for an hour. I could have listened to them all day. Maclean said something stupid is all; I’m sure we’ve all done that but without the world watching.

And it’s been his MO for decades… has nobody watched this guy before? He has always taken something someone says and try to do something poetic. It’s annoying as all hell, and the only good thing Cherry brought to the table was eye rolling when Ron did it.

Flabbergasted that people have dug so deep into poorly executed wordplay.
