Lol. They lost game 1 because he did play. They lost game 2 because he didn’t play.

The whole fate of the team is on him

He's looked good for the most part, racked up some points, but man his blunders/mistakes/idiocy have been huge black marks for him, and have really hurt his team.
It’s like being the leading scorer in the league but giving the puck away to lose in OT and get eliminated. The good stuff gets swept away.

Kidding? The guy fell at the blue line and the Fla winger was away.

The ‘hook’ was a guy keeping up and battling

If the Panthers were smart they won't give him anything more than 2 years.

But I could see a 6X6 coming.

Regardless of Bennett's penalties, the Panthers' inability to kill a penalty in this series doomed them. He's just the easy goat.

The hook was a guy being dragged down with a stick around his waist right in front of the net. The “trip” was a little incidental bump that put the guy a little off balance. There’s been. Lot of those ones.

He's taken two bad penalties in a 6 game series, and he has 5 points in 5 games. Prior to that he had 15 points points in 10 games. One of the bad penalties was a cheap shot in reaction to Barkov taking a headshot, and tonight he got high-sticked while he was ripping someone's helmet off. I think that boils down to one stupid penalty, because you can't let a rival take shots at your captain/best player, and then even tonight...the refs should have called 1 on each side.

Yes, the positives vastly outweigh the negatives.

This is true but Sam is a huge part of that as well.

^^ the fair penalty tonight would have been 2 each for roughing and an extra minor to Sam for the extra stuff.

He’s the easy goat because 2 really dumb penalties (which always seem to be the toughest to kill) were instrumental in costing his team 2 losses.

Yeah, but I think it's fairly evident that it's a systematic thing with their PK. It's just awful, and is being exploited nightly. Odd to not see any sort of meaningful adjustment. TB's PP clicking at 40%+, alongside Vasilevsky outplaying both Driedger and Bobrovsky is a big part of this.

No, it would have been high sticking for the clear stick to the face and then 2 for roughing

2 for the initial roughing, 2 more for not quitting and ripping the helmet off and elbowing the guy in the face.

Sam took it too far. It’s what he does in those situations.

I think you're glossing over that penalty in Game 1 too much. Could have changed the series in that one brain dead moment. Sticking up for a teammate? I don't think the Lightning learned any lessons from that play other than Bennett will take stupid penalties time to time and you can capitalize on them.

It's too bad, because without those brain dead moments I'd say he's had a very good/ excellent playoff series.

The refs miss lots of penalties. You don’t prove your point by pulling a guy’s helmet off and throwing an elbow. That’s just daring them to call you.

Florida's defense has just been torched by some talent this series. Eek.

What a play by Point.

Game 1 was not decided by a penalty. It was decided by a breakaway 5v5.

His penalty in game 6 should have been a 4v4, whether it was the interference or the hick stick.

Why is a "dumb" penalty tougher to kill, exactly? Sounds like confirmation bias.

Either way, this is a 3-0 game. If your narrative is that one penalty cost the Panthers the game, you lack any objectivity whatsoever.
