You're going to regret this in 3 or so months.

What sounds like a bad idea? The ladder shelf or courting a gal pal? As honestly, both sounds pretty horrific

Hahahahah
That stake was already claimed, and have moved on.
The shelves have 2 inch lips around 3 sides, so they won’t fall as easily. You guys may be right, but most hangers I’ve played with, are also easy to dislodge.
It’ll be centre of my closet, easy to display them.

The GMG thread inspired me to seek consultation here.
I'm an early 30s guy, but I've always looked older than I am (tall, dark, handsome, etc). This has actually worked to my advantage in the business world I think.
Now I look like I'm in my late 30s due to this condition, and a little bit of thinning at the top.
I want a new work wardrobe, so I'm looking for ideas. I work in a pretty relaxed office environment (dark jeans acceptable) but I still want to look good, and maybe more youthful if that makes sense. I bought a couple of chino pants, but I don't know what to pair them with and such. Ideally, if I could have about 10-12 work outfits I rotate, that would be fantastic. I have a few blazer jackets that are too fancy for our office environment, and I typically wear those to meetings with clients or conferences.
I guess I'm not looking to spend $1200 on shoes, but I'm also open to spending a little more than $120 on them to look good. Same for the rest of the wardrobe.

I don't recommend shopping at Walmart then.
Typically:
- a few nice dress shirts - get on sale at The Bay (you don't need to spend 100+ unless that's your thing)
- definitely 2-3 pairs of nice shoes
- make sure you always match belt and shoes
- 10-12 outfits seems about double what I'd go for.

Shoes budget needs a bit of a bump. Honestly, shoes is one of the areas that you get what you pay for in quality.
You can sometimes find good shoes at discount places, Winners or the Shoeware house, but you need to know what you are looking for.

I'd look at Allen Edmonds shoes:
https://www.allenedmonds.com/
They also have their outlet store:
https://www.shoebank.com/
A lot of classic, yet stylish models.
For shirts, I'd try and find some casual style dress shirts. As far as brands go, I would ignore brand chasing, and just find the shirt that fits you the best. For me, that ended up being Banana Republic. I've bought far more expensive shirts that didn't look nearly as good. If your office is less casual, I'd pick shirts with slightly less traditional colours and patterns.
If you're less slim, I'd go with a more layered look. So add in more cardigans and sweaters.

Dress shirts and Oxford shirts are great, but remember, fit is king. So make sure your chinos and shirts all fit properly. Another option for the summer is polo shirts. If your office is fairly casual, a polo shirt with chinos or jeans and white sneakers (something classic and simple like Adidas Stan Smiths) is a nice, "youthful" look.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Spend money on #1 shoes then #2 jackets. You can cut costs in other places if needed.

I wouldn't buy dress shirts. Maybe nice fittest ones, but be careful. They can make you look old and stuffy unless you're wearing them with a suit.
Nice dark jeans and a casual long sleeve button-down. Invest in a bunch. Solid colours are great (light blue, light grey, light pink, navy, dark grey, etc.). A pair of light brown chinos, dark brown chinos, black and navy or grey chinos. You can do polos or short sleeve casual button-downs, but just make sure they aren't baggy.
Avoid shirts that are bright white or dark black. Stick to off-whites if you want white and charcoals if you want black (up top, black jeans/chinos are fine).
You can do nicer shoes with chinos, something brown and classic like a wingtip. You can also do a nice boot. Match your belt with your shoes (colour wise).
The key is to choose things that look fitted and sticking to neutral colours is always safe. Straight or slim pants, fitted shirts, a nice belt, and nice shoes, and you'll be looking alright.

Yes, this is me. I look old and lame because I wear dress shirts because I don't know what else to buy for work clothes.
Do you have any recommendations for casual button down long sleeved shirts?
Also, someone else mentioned Allen Edmonds shoes that look more casual than wingtips. Do you think those are acceptable with the look your suggesting here?
Great stuff fellas, keep it coming.
EDIT: I should add that I only wear a suit 3-4 times a year professionally, and I'm more worried about daily driver outfits.

Depends which ones. AE makes some excellent casual style shoes, like the walnut Strand Weave...
... they also make some real garbage.

Is it generally accepted among men in their 30s that you need at least to spend X amount on shoes?
I guess I'm willing to do what it takes.

Also buy plain white undershirts.
I can't stress this enough.
It extends the life of your "dress" shirts and you have to spend less on replacing, it eliminates pit stains and you don't have to worry about someone seeing your chest hair matted under your shirt
Undershirts are so key, make sure they are long enough to stay tucked in, otherwise they will untuck, but your shirt will stay tucked and you will look fat and dumb.

I don't think there is a generally accepted rule, no. It would be ridiculous to suggest that everyone needs to own a $700+ pair of boots. But if you want really good boots, that's what they cost.
I neglected to get into the Crockett & Jones / Carmina shell stuff, which is a fair bit more in a lot of cases, and then above that you have certain high fashion brands (which you don't need to worry about) so don't think that what I posted there is tops. It's just my suggestions for what are really good options in a bunch of price bands.

Which Indys? Mine are the 405 from when they still used the duck lining. They're over 10 years old. I wore them yesterday. Today I wore my colour 8 shell PCTs. Alden is a religion.
I didn't have any issues with my Wolverines but they're just not at the level of Alden. Red Wings are really unrefined too. But they're a few hundred bucks less so I can't fault people who go that route.

Nah. You have to see them in the context of an outfit. They look great with a pair of chinos and a lightweight shirt. I don't have that pair, but I do have chili hampsteads, which is a similar concept.

... Granted, woven leather wingtips is perhaps not where I'd advise someone to start their "good shoe" journey. Like I said above, nice pair of boots. Can't go wrong.

Yeah they are the one thing I don't spend much $ on.
I find the fruit of the loom are cheap and fit me well (long enough for 6 foot me). By the time the collar is looking ratty it is cheap and easy to grab a new set of them.
