Im not sure they both get to the end of their deals myself.
Maybe Holland doesn't have the cajones but if i am in his spot, i look long and hard at trading Leon.
I have to believe he would return 3 solid pieces if he got to market and there is nothing the Oilers need more than depth at every position.
He could easily grab a top 6 C and W along with a top 4D imo. The players wont be elite guys at their positions but all good at what they do.
Holland may not have a choice. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them asks for a trade in the next few seasons if the team continues to have no playoff success.
Crosby has 4th line grinder style with 1st overall generational talent. That's probably why he's so good in the playoffs and when compared against McDavid, you can see where the latter is lacking. He doesn't like the grinding/mucking up style of the playoffs. Crosby excels in it.
I don't think McDavid will ask for a trade. I think he likes being a God up in Edmonton with no real accountability. Where else are they going to let him pick his linemates and play full 2 minute PPs or play 30 mins a game.
He's not even upset they're out in the first round. His goal was to rack up as many points in 56 games as possible and then enjoy his summer. Now the city will spend the next 3 months preaching about how Connor needs help and how Connor will learn from this and be better next season and how they'll win the cup for sure after this great experience.
Then they'll do it all again, and again, and again. Everyone will think McDavid will leave once he's a FA but he won't. He'll spend his days racking up easy points against bottom feeders and chewing up the Oilers cap.
A year or two into his next contract he'll lose a step and become a PPG player. His contract, still the highest in the league will become an albatross. Without his acceleration he'll become more injury prone and spend the next few seasons oft injured and struggling to hit that PPG mark.
The last 2 or 3 years of that contract he'll be a PP specialist playing LW on the 2nd line. Of course he'll still be the highest paid player in the league and the Oilers faithful will just talk about what could've been and how it's all a conspiracy that the refs let too many penalties slide against him.
McDavid will take his 200+ million dollars and his personal awards and fade into obscurity before he hits 38.

Absolutely. They had a 3 goal lead with less than 9 minutes left in the game. Few NHL teams could overcome a 2 minute minor penalty against in that scenario. Simply insurmountable.
The refs have to know they can't make that call there. More hard lessons for the refs on how to ref in the playoffs but when will they start putting it together?
A week ago it was:
Edmonton owned the Jets all year
McDavid is on fire and ready to take it to the next level
The Oilers owned the Jets in the 80s
The Jets never won a series against Edmonton
6 days later?
The ####ing greasers got swept in 4. E=NG.

What an interesting case study the Oilers are. Chiarelli built the Oilers to be a playoff style team and they were a game away from the Western Conference finals. But in the regular season, they struggled to keep up with the quicker/skilled teams in the league and they missed out for a couple seasons after. Then, they tried to undo what Chiarelli did by getting smaller and quicker and now they look primed to be a perennial playoff team, but are now struggling to win playoff style games.
Very interesting case study of how the game changes from regular season to the playoffs and how you need players that can get you into the playoffs and players who can get you through the playoffs.
What blows me away is that Crysaitl goes for a skate behind the jets net and is still inside the jets zone when the puck goes in. Nnr MAvI doesn’t even cross the centre line. How does he not hustle more there; it’s his mistake.
It’s the 3rd overtime in an elimination game and you can’t even hustle back.
The other team’s captain blocked a shot with junk.
Who would you as a teammate personally play harder for?
I bet nnr is hated in the room.

Honestly they should try to cash out on Draisaitl to add some depth around McDavid.
He's clearly a d-bag, and it was clear all he cares about is individual stats when he was asked "What's one rule you'd love for the the NHL to change?"
And his answer was "I wish they'd let Shootout goals count towards my stat totals".
McDavid could easily be legitimately the best player in the game due to his speed alone. All he would have to do is bust his ass to backcheck and play defense as much as he does to cheat for offense. As the captain it would set an incredible standard for the rest of his team to match his effort and commitment levels.
Of course if he did that he couldn't play 28 minutes a night...
They had no control after that penalty, everything was slanted against them.
Hahaha and this is why Tippett is a loser coach who also hasn't won anything in his career. It was a bad penalty. Granted. But it was a 2 minute penalty that they scored 1 goal on. Explain the other 2 goals Mr Tippett...It's not like that 5 minute major debacle in the Vegas vs San Jose series 2 years ago where 3 goals were scored. The oilers deserve Tippett and vice versa.
