If that’s the best praise with his salary and cap hit you pray Seattle takes him.

Since the only reason the Sabres are trading Eichel is because he doesn’t want to play there anymore, it sure looks like he can at least decide where he doesn’t want to play.

I just don’t buy the theory that the Kraken will take Gio or Lucic. Cap space is king especially in the next few seasons, Seattle won’t be helping out a divisional rival by taking those contracts for free.
It’s all a smoke screen to ween more assets out of Calgary and Treliving might be dumb enough to fall for it.

What's all a smoke screen? The only people I see blowing this smoke are fans – Flames fans for the most part, as nobody else really cares who the Flames lose. I very much doubt anyone in an NHL front office is dumb enough to make a side deal to appease fans on message boards.

Treliving has already talked about it in the media, about the possibility of making these deals to protect players, he even alluded to the draft picks acquired at the deadline as possibly having a use in the expansion draft. Now he hasn’t outright said that he would do it nor has he actually done it, but the fact it’s even being considered is stupid.
Just call Seattle on the bluff. Don’t give them any additional assets to protect anyone.

Trade Monahan for Bennett...who would need to add? Us or Florida?

Nope, I expect any of the teams that get eliminated in the first round to put in some massive offers. Flames arent gonna have the assets to make a deal.

That's bold.
Middlestat hasn't proved anything to date while Rienhart scored at over a 35 goal pace this year and has five twenty goal seasons under his belt. Last time Middlestat scored 20 was in high school.
You must know something most of the hockey world doesn't.

Gio will be on the books for only one more season. He’s also an asset the Kracken could flip at the deadline for picks. Seattle still has to make the cap floor. They can’t just draft a roster of guys making under $3 mil.

How do you know? You don't know what Buffalo wants and I would argue Tkachuk is worth more than most of the other teams pieces if the Sabres want to turn it around quickly.

I dunno. Is Huberdeau coming back with him? Because Bennett is useless without being stapled to Huberdeau.

Tkachuk is probably about the best the Sabres will get for an actual young established player in my opinion. Flames cannot compete on straight futures but who will the Sabres get that is better than Tkachuk if Buffalo wants a top line player coming back?

You can say the same for Monahan and Johnny Hockey

If you drafted a roster with everyone making $3M you get over the floor.
They won’t do that, but they can take two or three good players actually earning $4M and make it with the rest being low cost.
Now Gio, he’s probably still a $5M dman at worst and he’s a valuable trading asset (unlike Lucic) so IMO he’s nowhere near safe. It’s a choice between him and Kylington IMO.

Except it isn't true. One has a history of being able to score without the other, and the other player doesn't have a history of scoring until getting stapled to Huberdeau.

Bennett scored with “anchor” Lucic on his side. Once again you sell Bennett short.

I forgot Lucic is only 32 and even won that Cup 10 years ago already. I feel like he's been in the league long enough to be 40.

Who are the Oilers offering? Not McDrai. RNH is a UFA. So Puljujarvi or Yamamoto? Who are the Blues offering? They have no young forwards who are anywhere near Tkachuk in ability. Ditto the Caps.
The Panthers, assuming they are eliminated, are thick down the middle assuming they re-sign Bennett. The Habs have no one of note to offer. The Wild have Fiala and that’s it.
