And he also said the question wasn’t so much “when?”, but “How many?”.
Because, as you all know, “They’re building something special up there!”.

So, so glorious.
It is like a nice hot shower after the filth of this season. I don't feel as bad anymore about how bad we were.

The Oilers can sleep well knowing they dominated the Fancy stats
CF% 54.6
HDCF% 65.0
xGF% 57.25
Hate to say it but advanced stats are for losers. Oilers basically swept the series if only advanced stats counted in the games outcome.
Vegas finally broke through the fancy stats and dominated the Wild last night as the Wild forced a game 6.
Tampa finally broke through and won fancy stats for the first time in the series lost game the game 4-1 and are headed into game 6
There will be the advanced stats pointing to the Jets losing the next series in 4 games be it against Toronto or even Montreal
PS Toronto has been beating Montreal in Fancy Stats. So the advanced stats guys can point to that and say see we were right

One of the worst feelings ever was Edmonton making the finals in 2006 after The Flames run and a lockout. The greatest feeling was seeing Carolina hoist the cup.

Advanced stats may be telling of trends in a long 82 game season but it seems in the playoffs it comes down more to goaltending and opportunistic goal scoring over strong possession stats.

I could have seen McLottery ask for a trade last season after missing the playoffs.
This season? He's a big reason they got swept. Two brutal giveaways leading directly to goals, and a handful of secondary assists.
I still hope he asks. I hate him in Edmonton.

And he was basing it on Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle “taking off” and McDavid “fitting in”.

I find it stunning that more people dont see this.
He puts up numbers, no question. But when he is on the ice half the damned game, he does absolutely nothing defensively.
Maybe if you had Peak Chara or Lidstrom back there picking up the slack in front of Peak Hasek or Kipper or something it'd be different....but you dont.
I dont even know how to make it clearer.
You cant score your way out of your mistakes in the NHL Playoffs with any semblance of regularity.
Its not Ontario River Hockey anymore.
But McDavid is always looking to put up points. He just wants to be King of the Ashes.

Lost the little respect I had for Mcdavid after they showed him shaking his head after Bear have the puck away for a goal. Like you've given the puck over countless times for goals against this series yet here you're the captain of the team shaking your head at a player on your own team. It's called leadership, you tap Bear on the should say shake it off and go back out there next shift and make up for it. Then on the other team you have Blake Wheeler blocking a shot with his groin to try and stop a scoring chance. No doubt the Jets players will rally behind the captain after seeing something like that.
Mcdavid is one of the worst leaders I've ever seen in my life time.

The basic counting of xGF and HDCF may be off when a team is concentrating on defense and expecting their goalie to stop a hurried no other option shot from an area marked High danger.
If I have it correct the wicked misses that would beat the goalie and go an inch wide or hit the post are not high danger chances and hitting the goalies crest or glove from the same spot is a HD chance.
Do the times that Morrissey gets his stick on the puck as the Oiler shoots from a HD spot count? HD attempted shot on goal?

I don't think that anyone is going to stand up and say that McDavid had an outstanding or even a good season. He had 1 nice goal and three secondary assists. But he's just so sloppy with the puck and un engaged on defense. Its something that he's going to have to figure out if he wants to be called generational. He hasn't been a true standout in the playoffs, he was a ghost against Anaheim a few years back, and he was really kind of a ghost here.
I wouldn't even say that Draisaitl was all that great in this series. Probably the standout for the Oilers was Smith, who really kept them in it with a lot of 5 bell saves in the series. But that winning goal was typical Mike.
McDavid seemed to think they were the better team in this series. Not really, it was at times equal, but I think Winnipeg was the better team and deserved to sweep.
McDavid seems to think that they have to do some small adjustments. But that lack of depth shone through badly especially when you look at the time on ice.
I think this was Edmonton's big chance to go on a run. Wins are going to be tougher to come by and its likely that Barrie, Larsson and RNH aren't back next year and finding replacements in the same dollar value is going to be really hard, and they don't have a lot of exciting things coming up from the farm.

Does Morrissey's remaining 6 years at 6.25 look like the bad contract that his poor possession stats pointed to?
Maybe shutting down a generational talent in 4 playoff games might justify the big bucks.
Demelo looks like a steal at 3M for another 3 years.

McDavid has not shown an extra gear in the playoffs. Things get tighter and he attempts to play the same way as in the regular season, and it doesn't work quite as well. He'll still get plenty of chances and look more or less like McDavid, and his normal set of gears is better than anyone else's normal set of gears.
But in the playoffs, some players find another level beyond their normal one. He doesn't seem to. So while in the regular season he's considerably better than everyone else (his "normal" vs. everyone else's "normal"), in the playoffs, the gap is a bit smaller (his "normal" vs. everyone else's "extra gear"), and that makes a massive difference to the results.
I do think there was some officiating shenanigans, but that's how the playoffs are. I wish they'd call the games consistently, but we all know they don't, so it's not like that's a big surprise. You have to push through it. Mackinnon seems to have that ability. Connor might develop it. After all, everyone said the same thing about Yzerman for about a decade before things changed for him.

Denial is a hell of a drug eh?
22 million in cap space to fill 6 spots may seem like a decent amount. But when you factor in the Oilers are losing their 3rd best forward, 2nd and 3rd best defensemen. Its really not much. It will take at least 18million to resign/replace RNH, Barrie, and Larsson. So that gives you 4 million to sign 3 players. One of which is a goaltender. AmPle cAp SpAcE.
Should add the 17 under contract for next year include Lagesson, Broberg, Bouchard, Mcloed, and Jones. Hardly an NHLer in that bunch too.

Where's this ample cap space. They're losing RNH, they're not going to find a cheaper replacement, that's just fantasy. Also I think its likely that Barrie will want a big raise, and Larsson might not stick around. That's a two top 4's. As well starting goaltenders aren't cheap. A Smith replacement is going to come with an increase.
Even if they dump off one of Larsson or Barrie and bring back Klefbom, the guy is a massive injury risk. It will still leave the Oilers short on top pairing guys.
This is a difficult off season, the smart move is to trade Draisaitl for a raft full of depth as his value will never be higher, though its clear that they don't trust him to run his own line.
