Then Lomberg sits in the box flipping his hair and giving oilers fans a nod. Hilarious.

Agreed.
I want to see a full season of 4th line Ritchie under Sutter

Interviewer: “So, Ryan, aside from tonight what was your biggest goal”.
Lomberg: “I only had 2 so I guess the first one”.

Pandemic schedule too, I don't think its a big deal

First off, my mistake. I mixed up the time zone and put it in PT. Game 4 is at 10:30 AM Mountain.
The NFL does have games start at 11:30 AM Central. The other leagues do have that start time or even at 11 AM, but it's very rare.

Celebrated Square Root Day

I think missing from the debate on role players and how important vs unimportant they are to the Flames is the fact that our problem isn't any individual player/move. It's just that we continually seem to make the wrong decisions with nearly every depth/role player move, whether it's who we let go, trade or sign.
No, you shouldn't have to worry about a role player looking good somewhere else. But the reason you shouldn't have to worry about it is because you should be creating situations where you have a nice revolving door of 3rd/4th line/depth defenseman that contribute.
We don't have that, we seem to get weaker and softer depth players every year, so seeing our old depth players do things elsewhere hurts a bit more simply because of that.

There's also some negative bias and myopia at play.
Hathaway for instance had 6 goals and 12 assists in 56 games this year. Lucic had 10 goals and 13 assists in 56 games this year while allowing us to subtract James Neal and reeuce total cap hit compared to 2019.
Lomberg had... 4 points all year. Even a PTO like Brett Ritchie probably outproduced him and looked fine on the fourth line as that spare parts energy guy. Of course it's a cute story that he scored the OT winner but hockey's just weird like that.
I don't think Tobias Reider would have improved our team this year either, even though I prefer him over Nordstrom. Maybe it's my fanboy side showing but I'd rather give a kid like Matthew Phillips a chance to kill some penalties and be our Tobias Reider replacement. Phillips is also a righthanded shot, something sorely missing.
Paul Byron... waiving him was always an idiotic move considering Treliving could easily have waived Raymond, Bollig, or Colborne that year.

^^ All true (except I like Nordstrom better than Reider).
Byron going was a mistake, though I don't think he'd have made the same impact here just because of the depth charts on each team. And he certainly wouldn't have been kept on later at the same kind of contract he got from Montreal.

He is an atrocious defenseman.
Good offensive dman, but just a buffoon in his own end.

Yes I just assumed he’d be back in, but I guess I was wrong. Two more years of a big contract, if he’s scratched now not sure what his future looks like.
