Is a major reason why this team can never find a second gear. We’ve let a lot of guys go for nothing that find a role immediately on successful teams. If Treliving stays our GM going into this next season I have zero faith we will move in the right direction.

He made a nice play...it's also his 3rd goal of the season

If the Flames were in a PO game would I be shocked if Ritchie or Nordstrom scored one? Nah. Ville had 5 goals all year with Chicago and Calgary in 03-04. 4 goals in the POs. It happens.

Ryan ####ing Lomberg
Looks like an extra from Fubar, but none the less, has earned the respect and trust of coach Q throughout the year. Lots of guys had his spot in the lineup, but he earned for the playoffs.
And then he goes and does that. I'm speechless.
Panthers are still in this series. Next game is ####ing huge. I hope they stick with goalie bob this time as Driedger simply doesn't have the experience to handle the pressure of NHL playoffs, but Bobrovsky knows a thing or two about beating Tampa Bay in the playoffs.

Maybe re-read my post. I didn’t state Lomberg was the missing link. But he sure would of been an upgrade over Simons 0 goals even being gifted 1st line minutes. Garnet Hathaway would probably be the best example of what I’m bringing up.

All of this is an extension of Treliving not wanting to overpay for bottom of the lineup talent.
Remember Lance Bouma? Treliving does, and he didn't want to do that again.
That being said, when you recognize a guy is truly valuable, the prudent thing to do is give him a decent term on a low AAV deal. I agree that a player who gets 18 points in a 56 game season is worth at least 1.5 million, nevermind getting 3 points in 3 playoff games.

Yeah, Simon, Nordstrom and Leivo became the biggest wastes of space. And soft soft soft contribution to the Flames identity.

Ritchie is better than lomberg
Hathaway sure, sounds like he wanted to head home though.

Still, you'd take Ritchie, Lomberg and Rinaldo over Simon, Nordstrom and Leivo.

I'm not losing sleep over Lomberg or Hathaway types. It's a fun story but there are a plethora of guys around the AHL who could do what they do.
That pass by Vatrano to spring Lomberg on the other hand? That was the kind of skill we need to be adding.

I'd probably take exactly zero of those guys and sooner let Valimaki or Kylington play 4LW rather than scratching them.

lol. Yeah, Ritchie is a second liner, don’tcha know?
Zero playoff games in his career
Lomberg an effective role player with a playoff OT game winner

Ritchie isn't great, but he's pretty effective in a specific role. Problem is he was being shoehorned onto the top line.
4th liner? Sure. 1st/2nd line? Whyyyyyyyy.

The problem isn’t letting Lomberg and Hathaway go. They were good pick ups that brought value to the org, but it’s usually best to not invest term and money into 4th liners. (In Hathaways case at least)
The problem the last couple years is we haven’t had more guys like Lomberg or Hathaway that were developed internally that could come up on minimum contracts to fill a role.

Ritchie should be a fourth liner, it's not his fault he was put in that spot. And yeah he is better than Lomberg one goal doesn't change that. He is a better fighter too.
Lomberg made a nice play but he is not the one that got away
Allen Quine has a playoff OT winner too

No, Bennett is. Lol
Lomberg is just another Flames castoff being effective in the post season
No biggie. He’s not alone

Darryl sharpens his role players into diamonds as a ####ing hobby.
If we re-sign Ritchie he will be decent provided he is played exclusively in the bottom six.
