I'm not going to disagree with you that their expectations were too high and they needed to try harder, but as a team member, you need to believe in your teammates that everyone is doing their jobs to the best of their abilities and that success is attainable. If you don't, well then might as well throw the towel in on day 1.

Maybe huge changes are needed. Maybe not. There will be some, and hopefully Sutter can emphasize an effort culture next season.

You're ridiculous for not considering that as a possibility. That may very well be the condition for him staying. It may not, but it very well could be. When you look around the league tell me he couldn't demand that, especially when you have to include the "Calgary tax?" $8.5-9M elsewhere is like $10M in hockey's hinterlands. That would put him in the same range as Marner, Tavares, and Kane at just straight up salary. If you look at $8.5-9M elsewhere and adds the likes of Skinner, Backstrom, Benn, Stone, and Seguin. Gaudreau could easily ask that of the Flames and not be out of line.

Definitely a shot at Chucky… Lucic said you have to buy in to team first and if it’s playing less time you do that for what’s best for the team. After Chucky said he was unhappy with his cut in ice time after Sutter came in.

They would still have to deal him or then limit themselves to 5 teams they can talk to or lose him for nothing at all next year.

Its just the position he/they are in with each other.
I'm old enough to remember Macinnis unequivocally saying he wanted to stay in Calgary for the whole of his career. Fleury too (and I also remember him saying money wasn't a big deal after a certain level). The tune changed at the actual negotiation table and they were gone soon after.

The answer about buying in even if you get less time definitely seems to point to Tkachuk

So much emotion on the Gaudreau topic.

Two things can be correct ...

1) He wants to stay
2) But only at a certain price

It's silly to be upset with anyone who either a) thinks the term and dollars could be too much or b) want to wait to see what they are before they decide they want the player signed.

Seems more like a shot at Dube, who is completely disengaged when he's not scoring.

You're probably right. But the Kracken do need to get above the cap floor, so you never know.

He speaks way more passionately and honestly than anyone I've heard from today. A lot could be learned from his determination and 'give a S' attitude. This roster needs a huge kick in azz from it leaders.

Offensively, I think Hanifin could contribute more - he's a terrific skater, though I don't know if he has the shot to be a huge threat. Kylington needs to be given some more rope. He's got lots of offensive skill and he's not afraid to use it. Let him take some chances. I think Valimaki is a really good passer. Not sure if his wheels are there though.
Mackey led the defensemen in fighting majors.

That's crazy. If that doesn't tell you this defense is too soft, nothing will.

I dont think you're going to get much from the players on a day like this. In fact I'm surprised Lucic has been so candid and honest.

They more or less sucked this year, they know it, the media knows it, the fans know it. Now we gotta beat that dead horse until changes are made.

I bet he at least starts there, with Panarin making $11.6M as a comparable. or using Tkachuk's QO as a comparable.

I think it's telling that you have to go back to an era when the Flames had a fraction of the budget of other teams and no salary cap. Cammalleri is the only star player that I can remember walking away from the Flames since the cap came in.

He can re-sign at any point in the final year of his contract meaning he can basically re-sign as of right now.
