Speculating that Futa would be GM and Treliving is promoted to POHO

First you get the Sutter/Futa connection from LA and Treliving is still here to hand it off smoothly.
As mentioned on in this thread, Freidman has stated that a lot of groundwork has been laid for this upcoming off season. To me it has always seemed shortsighted to throw that away.

I am fine with this as long as Treliving has no hand in daily hockey operations. Go take care of the arena stuff.

I would think it's highly unlikely that Treliving gets promoted out of this. I can appreciate the reasoning behind giving him another year, but having him mentor a new GM? I can't buy that.
And I'd think there would be more experienced business people suited for the role of overseeing the business aspects of hockey ops. I don't know what would make Tre qualified to be dealing with new arena.

I can’t say I’d be overly happy with Treliving being promoted out of this. If a change is to happen, it should be more of a change over than promoting the existing guy to a position where he still has complete oversight. That feels like it would be very Oilers/Kevin Lowe’ish.

Pretty sure Treliving is on the way out if Futa is coming in. Or they move Tre to the business side and remove him from all hockey operations.

Pretty sure that Treliving job would be to handle that. It's literally in the job description. His job wouldn't be focused on arena stuff aside from the aspects that affect the players themselves.
Weird to be doing an Oilers move and failing upwards if this is was to happen though.

Thing is, they’re paying him, they may feel like they should get something out of it.
Treliving did found a hockey league, and oversee a merger of that league, so presumably he’s good at organizational things.
POHO has always been a vague and undefined position to me. It seems like different teams treat it completely differently. In some, they are central to everything and in others they seem like figureheads. And it wouldn’t be the first time someone got fired upward into that spot.

Could be a good situation. If Treliving is still around in more of a business of hockey capacity with some oversight into things like contracts, he's got some skill in those areas. The person coming up with the vision for assembling the on ice product needs to change though. I'd be okay with this happening.

One thing we need to remember is the POHO job here in the past was strictly a hockey job and not the business side. I recall that was one of the reasons that Shanahan turned down the Flames role in the past. They wanted him to be the POHO and he wanted to add the business side to his scope but that was Ken King’s job. When Burke was hired he was strictly on the hockey side and King was on the business side.
John Bean was the guy who took over for King (RIP) and I believe is still in that role. If Treliving takes the POHO job (or Davidson for that matter) I do not believe we will see them take over anything on the business side. It does feel like Burke mostly was the mouthpiece for the Flames at luncheons and other business related events so perhaps that is what Treliving would do in addition to assisting in building the hockey team as Burke was involved in all hockey decisions as well?
