Play these guys and give them a taste. I really don't care to see any of the main group or vets, sit Markstrom too. Sutter is Sutter and you can't take his comments to the media seriously all the time but if he wants to talk about the word "deserved", then 90% of the main roster doesn't "deserve" to play.

For those who are looking purely at Phillips' boxcar totals... he was the leading scorer on a Heat team that could hardly score.

He had barely any help, particularly after Zary left.

With Sutter at the helm of this team, it's just going to get bigger and tougher-that's just how it is. Gradually, some of the smaller prospects will be phased out, and bigger guys will move in. We might see some on the big team, but overall, this is the way.

Does Phillips deserve a look see in the NHL? Of course he does.

I struggle to understand why Phillips is not given a shot. Maybe Phillips is not a Sutter type player.

I’m still thinking Sutter only wants one or two rookies in at a time, so they don’t get abused.

F me, Phillips is going to go succeed elsewhere

I just know it.

Stop drafting small guys if you'll never play them!

This organization..

One thing I'll say about Phillips is even though he's tiny, he's really solid on his skates. Pretty much the other end of the spectrum from Mangi. Need to trade some work-out tips.

About the same.

Nathan Gerbe is similar to Fleury. 5'4 but 176 lbs. Pretty high body mass index, or whatever it's called.
Debrincat is 5’7” too and 165 lbs.

Philips isnt going anywhere, unless he is traded.

RFA with no arb rights.

He will be in TC where, if he is good enough, he can win a job.

Sigh...we need to stop trading picks and start using the draft to stock the cupboards.

It is weird that Phillips wouldn't get a look in this situation but this is the Calgary Flames we are talking about and I just don't think Darryl is a developmental coach and isn't into feel good stories. Not exactly sure why we need to see more from Simon but I'm not going to lose sleep over this as the organization has much bigger issues to deal with.

Disappointed to say the least; I’ve followed Phillips since the start of drafting him especially in his draft +1 and 2 years before turning pro. I remain convinced he will be a high end performer and producer and the NHL level but unfortunately it’s looking like he will be doing it on a different team which is just maddening. So happy to be putting hockey down for a bit this year was filled with so many frustrating things for Flames fans and it’s going right to the bitter end.

When Zary left, Phillips' production fell off a cliff. Coincidence? I don't think so. The moment I was certain there was no future for Phillips was when you linked a Pettersen goal and the post goal celebration scrum was part of that cut. Pettersen towered over Phillips. Emilio Pettersen, who is borderline too small for the NHL, was huge in comparison. For Phillips to get a chance, and I mean a real chance, he's going to have to become an absolute dominant player at the AHL level. We're talking way beyond a PPG player, probably a point and half or greater. Coming in at .7 PPG and falling off a cliff for much of the season isn't going to earn you anything. In a league where size matters, and the Flames are the exclamation point on that statement, Phillips is fighting an uphill battle. Being the top scorer (tied for the lead anyways) on one of the worst teams in the AHL doesn't mean you have earned a shot. The deficiencies in his game are obvious and that is why he's not getting a shot.

You mean the team that has two little guys in their top six? Four or five guys under 5'10 and that's their hockey card stats.

I hope Phillips becomes a great hockey player and great story but how many of you were around for the great Dustin Boyd wars of the mid 2000s?

Similar anxiety.

I can't understand why so many Flames fans are so eager to see another small offensive prospect after watching how ineffective Gaudreau has been in big games

The team is desperate for scoring, so fans are grasping at straws. Two years ago Czarnik was the great hope.

And it needs to. Watch these first round playoff games. We need to get bigger, tougher, faster and more skilled. If we thought Cororado dummied us last time, it would be a bloodbath this year. McKinnon and Landeskog are beasts.
