Kinda seems like Kadri with the Leafs in the playoffs a couple years back. You love the effort, intentions and production but stupid penalties (and perhaps suspensions) that cost your team wins matter just a little bit more...
Of course this has been Bennett's MO forever.

The penalties that drive coaches crazy aren’t the borderline or even cheap hits. It’s the stupid penalties in the offensive zone that are Bennett’s calling card. The slash or trip on a d-man three seconds after he’s head-manned the puck. Usually when his team just got the lead or at another momentum-shifting point in the game. He’s been yelled at by four different NHL coaches (5 after last night) for it, but nothing has changed.
You could easily be describing Backlund as well. I would argue he's even worse when it comes to bad timing of his penalties.
No priors, no injury (which shouldn't matter but it does) and the POs 1 game = 3 games rule of thumb (which I don't agree with but understand) led to this result.
Hartley and Peters makes 2 NHL coaches. The other two guys...
Did Sutter or Q have to yell at him about an O-zone penalty yet?

Love when "Bennett's calling card" is something he almost never does. How many offensive zone penalties this year? Maybe one, with the Flames... if even? He hasn't taken an offensive zone penalty with the Panthers.

So he's not perfect? That has to shatter a few universes in here.

I think you are confusing offensive zone penalty with a needless or dumb play. Both are the same in they can/should be avoided.
It was one of the most physical games I've watched in a long time, players were getting away with a lot. In last night's game no one was getting 5
Well then the refs aren't doing their jobs. You run a guy from that far away, hit him square in the numbers into the boards that should be 5 and a game, all day every day. I don't care if it's Sam or not, 2 minutes for that kind of hit is a joke.

Dumb penalties, pushing the goalie into the net and then getting mad when the goal is called off are classic SB IMO
Not necessarily offensive zone penalties
He has had some borderline hits but nothing this bad, I wouldn't say he is dirty but this hit obviously was. Probably one of the worst hits of the season if we are being honest.
Sam better hope his team pulls it off without him or the legend of playoff Sam Bennett could be ending soon. Game two is basically their season IMO
