Kinda seems like Kadri with the Leafs in the playoffs a couple years back. You love the effort, intentions and production but stupid penalties (and perhaps suspensions) that cost your team wins matter just a little bit more...

Of course this has been Bennett's MO forever.

You could easily be describing Backlund as well. I would argue he's even worse when it comes to bad timing of his penalties.

Not enough. Those are the hits that they need to remove from the game.

Coleman is lucky he skated away.

If this was Tom Wilson, people would be screaming for a lifetime ban.

^Yes and why wasn't it 5 and a game in the game itself.

Yea, should have probably been 2 or 3 games.
McDonough should have gotten a game also.

Due to history and inevitable injury from being 50 lbs heavier, yes probably.

If Wilson had Bennett’s history, no.

In closing, irrelevant. But I agree this is light because that hit was insane.

Put me in the camp that has no idea how that wasn't 5 and a game last night.

1 game seems pretty light, but I always think suspensions handed out in the NHL are a joke. He's just lucky Coleman is ok.

Yeah if he got 5 and a game, the additional single game would have made more sense (due to the playoff multiplier).

No priors, no injury (which shouldn't matter but it does) and the POs 1 game = 3 games rule of thumb (which I don't agree with but understand) led to this result.

It reminded me of this play (minus the roping penalty).

He didn’t turn or anything, just standing in the corner facing the boards. No excuse.

Love when "Bennett's calling card" is something he almost never does. How many offensive zone penalties this year? Maybe one, with the Flames... if even? He hasn't taken an offensive zone penalty with the Panthers.

It was one of the most physical games I've watched in a long time, players were getting away with a lot. In last night's game no one was getting 5

I think it would have been fair for Bennett to get 2 and McDonogh get 1, but I don't mind this decision

The rest of the series is must-watch, this is turning into one of the best rivalries in the league

So he's not perfect? That has to shatter a few universes in here.

I think you are confusing offensive zone penalty with a needless or dumb play. Both are the same in they can/should be avoided.

Well then the refs aren't doing their jobs. You run a guy from that far away, hit him square in the numbers into the boards that should be 5 and a game, all day every day. I don't care if it's Sam or not, 2 minutes for that kind of hit is a joke.

That was a reply in direct reference to someone specifically mentioning offensive zone penalties. No confusion.

Dumb penalties, pushing the goalie into the net and then getting mad when the goal is called off are classic SB IMO

Not necessarily offensive zone penalties

He has had some borderline hits but nothing this bad, I wouldn't say he is dirty but this hit obviously was. Probably one of the worst hits of the season if we are being honest.

Sam better hope his team pulls it off without him or the legend of playoff Sam Bennett could be ending soon. Game two is basically their season IMO

Sam is a force in the playoffs and has consistently elevated his game. Nothing that happened last night is ending the legend of playoff Sam Bennett.
