Lol. Great observation on the board of a team that hires only the best coaches

Well he sure has good betting odds too I would bet Hartley will most definitely coach again in the NHL.

Probably a good thing the Rangers owner is an impatient meddler. It will undermine the unfair advantages the franchise has.

WTF does this team's fan site have to do with the fact that Boudreau, Gallant and Tortorella are all better choices than Hartley?

Sure, I can explain it for you
- Sometimes there are better coaches available than the one who gets hired
- you are familiar with the Flames (which I assume you are because you are a member of the fan site)
- assuming you are familiar with the Flames, you have seen coaches hired who aren’t ‘better’ coaches / choices / whatever
Let me know if you have any questions

OK, that makes sense, now you put it that way. Hartley has a chance as long as the Rangers don't want the best coach available. I suppose that's true.
I think all the Hartley talk is all based on the assumption that Drury likes him because he coached him to when he won a cup. Of course, Patrick Roy was also on that team and he's available. And members of that cup team don't necessarily like Hartley because of it. I know that at least a couple didn't.

Hartley coached Drury to his cup. If Hartley is respected at all by Drury, he will at the very least be approached. Be interesting to see who gets the gig.

Not all of Hartley's players loved him, but many did. I mean, Tanguay did as we all know. He didn't really love Hartley at the time, but he looked back at his career and realized that Hartley was right, and wanted him to be the coach in Calgary. Maybe Drury thinks the same about Hartley?
Either way, the NYR right now is the perfect landing spot to pretty much every coach in the NHL. A highly talented team coming out of the rebuild. I argue that it is specifically a great landing spot for a guy like Hartley. We saw firsthand how hard he got all the young players here working. He was also famous here for being a 'teaching coach', spending a lot of time with the players on the ice doing one-on-one hands-on teaching.
Almost every coach's dream job just became available. Will be interesting to see if Hartley ends up landing it. I hope he does.

According to Roy, Drury was a bit of a Hartley whipping boy and Roy felt like he had to tell Hartley off in front of everyone over it (a little like O'Brien said happened with Sven). Now this was early and there's a lot of water under that bridge (Roy once trashed Hartley's office in a fight with him, but supposedly they laugh that off now) so maybe Drury got over it too, or maybe Roy was exaggerating. But during those years Roy, Forsberg, and obviously Parker disliked Hartley a lot. I have no idea how Drury feels after all these years.

Tanguay also hinted at his dislike towards Hartley as well, IIRC. It was years later that he realized that a lot of what Hartley did was 'right'. I also have no idea how Drury feels about Hartley now - whether he is like Tanguay and was thankful for Hartley early on in his career or not. If he gets an interview, I would think it is safe to assume he likes Hartley.
Or maybe he just wants to sit across from Hartley, berate him, and laugh at him. I guess there is always a revenge angle. LoL

True, or at least want's to cover off a base. This would be the first serious interview Hartley's had (I'm not counting the Montreal one).
I read he's already asked for permission to talk to Gallant. They ahd to do it quickly before he leaves for the WC.
