Oiler fans talking like last year was a playoff year that is like Flames fans talking like they won a series last year. It doesn’t happen on this board or really anywhere else. People talk about the last series win in 15 because that was the last time they won a series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. They won a qualifying series that allowed them to qualify and the Oilers lost their qualifying series which means they DID NOT qualify for the playoffs.

Yeah, I don't think that's it. I get it for the Oilers making the playoffs is likely a once or maybe a twice in a life time experience so they tend to be a little silly and giddy.


But the Oilers making the playoffs is pretty much equivalent to a blind man guessing that he's reading mad magazine. Or a asteroid colliding with the earth causing a extinction level event. In other words its rare and its a fluke that can't be calculated on a calculator with less then 20 numeric display capability.


The best advice, temper your oily expectations, its likely that you'll be out very quickly, and then be off to planning things like your draft parties, and your annual failure to get big game free agents, followed by the David Staples sponsored hype party of we're building a dynasty, all our prospects are blue chip, that the Oiler faithful get sucked into and believe like a not too bright farm boy selling his cow for magic beans (Again the odds of these beans sprouting into a cloud ascending get the treasure bean stalk likely don't happen and are more of an urban myth then reality, like, Oiler fans telling legendary stories of their teams success that occured before the age of hd tv, face book, and computers that could produce more then 64 colors).


Inferiority complex, nah, I mean lets be honest, Oiler fans are guillable, a little stupid, don't know hockey that well, have a real deficiency when it comes to both honesty and logic. Tend to enjoy going to hockey boards for the annual super boast, followed by the exquisite vanishing stage as suddenly when the Oilers sag, they suddenly get too busy with a work project, have some kind of personal issue, or the planning of their wedding to their less then attractive sister took up all of their time.


Lets be honest, Flames fans unlike Oil fans mourn their fandom, we don't go to Oiler boards to brag about our team because in our heart of hearts we believe that our team is going to fail, we believe that we're going to under achieve, and frankly to be a good Flames fan you have to have a little bit of hatred and self loathing in your heart when it comes to this team.


On the other hand to get your oilers fan card you need to disconnect from reality, sign on to become a web influencer for morons like Staples and master manipulators like Lowe.


We know that Oiler fans are simple folk, they like dress shoes with their sweatpants. They believe the sexist thing on a woman is bruises on their legs. They believe that a shower is like going to church its something that you should probably do once or twice a month. In other words morons.



But its ok, in conclusion your honor. We don't hate Oiler fans, we love them, they're a solid example of what not to be. Flames fans don't have an inferiority complex. If anything we're superior to you Oiler fans because we can laugh at your delusions, we can chuckle at your silliness and we know that you're a convenient source of soylent green when the world ends because of your simple thought processes and herd mentality, and you're easily trapped, we just need to put up a cardboard sign that reads "Calgary Flames fan board through these doors". Or "Staples meet and greet in the slaughter room"

I think it's more of a reality check for everyone from the McDavid mania. The Oilers should be a perennial contender with 4 first overalls in 6 years, including a generational player. Instead they are a team that requires said generational player to have an epic year, their 39 year old goalie to pull a vezina performance out if his bum and a weak division to make the playoffs.

Despite the media hype fest for the McDavid Oilers the team is much worse than they should be. They aren't even a perennial playoff team.

Oilers fans bragging about even the smallest of success' is like listening to someone tell you how amazing their "scratching skillz" are because they won $500 on a lotto ticket.

I don't think it's possible to have less success with McDavid than the Oilers have had. You could put anyone on this board in charge of that team over that time and get the same or better results...and I include myself in that, which is saying something.

So maybe do something worthy of the luck bestowed upon your team and others will have a reason to feel inferior.
