I feel like it will take at least Tkachuk + Monahan + Valimaki or Andersson + 2 of Dube, Zary, or Pelletier.

Would have to take back Ristolainen and/or Miller with Eichel to match salaries.

Hope we're not offering any 1sts.

Hot take:
Monahan+Andersson+Mangiapane+pelletier.

Three pieces that are young and add immediately and meaningfully to the stable of talent in Buffalo. Pelletier is an impressive prospect.

I don’t see how Monahan doesn’t have Buffalo on his no trade list

If you're referring to the quotes noted in OP, this is a disgusting take. I don't know if you're too close to the game, and part of this 'old boys club' with your media history, but players should never be faulted with putting their long term health over the team success now.

To show an extreme example of what should occur- NHL Stanley Cup finals, Game 7, going into OT, Star goalie thinks he has a concussion and back-up is fresh from the AHL, the only right move we should cheer for is the player stepping off the ice. The NHL is a for-profit business. That is all it is.

Back to the story at hand -he seems like a player who is being forced to try to justify why he is standing up for his long term health. That is the reason for part of the quote you are hitting on -the "sometimes you have to take care of yourself" - he shouldn't have been put into a position to have to justify it and say it!

Safety is a responsibility for both the employer and employee. Any other industry, the Sabers as the employer would be hung out to dry for this behavior.

It's sickening.
So you've seen his medical records and can vouch for the severity of the injury as a medical professional?

It's one side from a player who's been disgruntled for a couple years now with their employer for a few reasons.

While he may well have some valid health concerns, it is only one side of the story and his PR campaign is being carefully orchestrated here for sure.

25 teams should be putting together offers.

Hockey News has Pelletier him raked #43 on their top prospect list. Now HN ain’t the end of the world, but that is not inconsistent with other publication’ views.

He is a decent prospect.

Eichel vs McDavid is just too perfect though. Storybook perfect.

The two top centers of their draft on each Alberta team. Oiler fans would poop their sweatpants having to endure the media attention being split between the superstars.

The man has to come here.

If you're gonna overpay for someone, it best be for a top-end young player with term. Eichel has that all over him. The true shake up this team needs while immediately acquiring the piece of the puzzle that has eluded them since Joe N was here.

I'm fine with overpaying for Eichel. You don't get a chance like this that often, let alone for a player his age with his skillset.

I want it to happen so bad, but this is the Flames so I know it won't end well for us. Oh well.

What? Of course I haven't seen them.

A player has accused their employer of forcing them to work through a workplace injury, while preventing the employee from without obtaining the needed surgery to fix the injury. It is presumed this was done as it would be to help the employers profit margin this year or future years (or to decrease the net loss this year).

Based on just this information, Bingo's first response was that player is screaming "me me me" too much. The player was only talking about their long term health concerns from a work place injury and being forced to work through it, and Bingo labels them as a "me me me" player?

Any other industry, that instant attack on a presumed victims character to defend the corporation, with zero evidence (unless of course there are other qutoes not included in OP, in which case, sure) would be a sickening position for all to see, and all should see it in hockey to.

Is there more to the story and there is a chance the player is embellishing? Perhaps, and the Sabers can certainty decide to go public or not. We may never hear the full story, if there is more from it, but currently this player is a victim and should be treated as such.

You don't provide a victim a blanket of trust with no questions, but you also don't immediately attack their character based on nothing but their concerns about the impact of their long term health. Like really? This was the first reaction?

This "cult of hockey" driving this mentality that team success (and therefore team profit margins) is more important than the long term health of these players needs to die a quick death.

Its gross

Article on the Athletic talking about every team’s level of interest.

The Rangers were the only front runner on the list but their writer says he doubts that Fox, Lafreniere or Kakko would be on the table and the Rangers are scared of the injury (easier to make the deal pre-injury)

Teams in the next tier “Test the Market”
Coyotes, Bruins, Flames, Jackets, Wings, Flyers, Wild, Kings, Caps

The rest of the teams either fall into interested but no cap space or not interested.

Why wouldn't people want to offer a 1st for him? Isn't he a bonafied first line center on a long term decent contract? Or is the $10M not good value?

Obviously the other part of the package would need to be looked at too, but don't understand why some wouldn't want him if a first is included.

With the draft, you don't know if you will get a 1st line player, we know we get that with him?

I always think to these graphs. People think/assume their #1 will be a future start, but realistically, there is a non-insignificant chance it fades to nothing. With options like including draft position protection included in a trade, a number 1 should definitely be on the table, no?

Bolded part below implies top picks are skewed to play more due to sunk cost vs actual talent of other pick positions
Quote:
Another interesting thing I noticed while going through the data is that all top five picks during that span of 10 years made it to the NHL with at least 100 games played. This is not surprising because the top picks are scouted very heavily and teams will also give them every possible opportunity to succeed because they’ve spent such a valuable asset to get them. So even if they’re not good, they’ll probably get 100 NHL games just to make sure. Alexander Svitov (third overall by Tampa in 2001) trails the group with 179 NHL games.

Picks six and seven are pretty safe as well, with only Lars Johnsson (seventh overall by Boston in 2000) and Nikita Filatov (sixth overall by Columbus in 2008) not reaching the 100 games played threshold. But the odds start to decrease from there.

The 15th overall selection has been the unluckiest by far with only four out of 10 players selected in that spot reaching the 100 game threshold. The seven picks before and after the 15th overall selection have all resulted in at least six NHL players with most of them resulting in seven or eight. That’s an interesting anomaly, and I can’t really explain that one either.

If Tre is staying, I expect him to empty the cupboards for Eichel. As DJ said, the Eichel vs. McDavid factor is huge!

I don't even care if acquiring Eichel provides no improvement or worsens the team. what's the alternative, watching the same junk that we've been fed the past few years? at least we'd finally have something new and different to complain about.

that's how bad things have gotten. I'm excited at the prospect of bitching about something other than Johnny/Mony/Chucky/Gio.

I think it would be interesting to see who Kevyn Adams has ties to in today’s NHL game. Even though Carolina has a roll four lines model more or less, if they don’t make it deep I could see them making a push for him too. Florida as well. The American teams would give up a lot I’d think, to get a marketable skilled American born player to headline their lineup. As for the Flames, unless it’s Monahan and a 1st, I’d be out. The Flames are in no position to give up too many futures at this point.
