Cause Tkachuk has been terrible this year... and he's going to get overpaid based on the minimum qualify offer requirements.

I disagree.
The key obviously is getting Johnny to re-sign, but a Johnny-Eichel line would be magic. The Flames are good on defence and goaltending.
Then they have a top 6 that includes Johnny, Eichel, Lindholm, Backlund, and Mangiapane. I assume Tkachuk or Monahan would be on the outs, and possibly part of the Eichel deal. However, if they can find a way to retain Tkachuk, they top 6 looks very competitive.

I wonder about Monahan's injury now? If hes injured why does he keep soldiering on? Is our Org supporting him properly?

IMO Eichel is the kind of guy you go all in on and TBH no one on this roster is off limits

Call me crazy since I’m the one whose been peddling the elite #1 center spiel for a while, but I wouldn’t want to add Tkachuk in a trade for Eichel. Creating another gargantuan hole on right wing for an injury prone elite center is risky as hell. I’d give up a ton of other picks/prospects and along with Sean Monahan. Our top paid center for their top paid center ++++. Without Tkachuk, the Flames’ right wing could be worst of all time kind of bad.

I firmly believe this organization doesn't know what to do with talented players, other than turning them into grinders and chasers.

If this is true, we have much bigger problems than any player moves will solve.

Don't want Treliving as GM. But am really glad some posters here aren't GM, too. Eichel is damaged goods. Gonna come at a discount now.

If the issue is being competitive during the next two years of Sutter's tenure...
Tkachuk + Backlund (1.85M retained) + Valimaki
... would be an extremely enticing package for Buffalo. Backlunds cap salary would be 3.5Million/3Years, and two high end young pieces for a disgruntled player coming off an injury.
Eichel
Lindholm
Monahan
Zary/Gawdin/Ruzicka
is very strong down the middle, with a solid goalie in Markstrom. The rest of the team would literally have to be average, and that is a contender.

True, herniated disks are a pretty big deal. Are there any players that have had that kind of injury and have not been a good bet to miss at least 10-20 games most seasons after that?

Hmmmmm..... Eichel has a real gripe here.

However, if you look to other players that have had a symptomatic lumbar disc herniation and were able to return, such as Zach Parise, Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson, and Marian Hossa, their performance was not the same before their injury.

I doubt he is going to be traded at a discount . Buffalo won’t win the deal because they are trading the best player in the deal. That said they are going to have some pretty good offers for Eichel .

I’d add Monahan to that list as well. Then say to Buffalo they can have one of Tkachuk or Monahan, then two of Valimaki, Zary, Pelletier, or a 1st.
I really don’t think the Flames should retool but if that’s the route they choose then it’s Eichel or bust IMO.

I hope Eichel makes a full recovery, but at $10 million per season, it's not an insignificant risk.

Don't fall into the trap that what the player says is all true and the team is trying to screw him over. The team has $100M invested in getting the player right, the player has a desire to supposedly play hockey as he is already guarantied his money.

In what way?
Tkachuk - QO will be $9MM+ too high for Flames to sign if we can trade for Eichel
Backlund/Monahan - upgraded by getting Eichel
Valamaki - good you d but have to give to get
Phillips - good numbers, good player, wont get a chance in Calgary
Eichel - wants out, unhappy with organization
Skinner, high contract, Flames can put on 2nd line LW
2022 first >2021 first for Flames.
just an idea and will never happen but like to hear what you think the several levels of makes no sense are?

People wanting to throw everything at the Sabres to trade for a guy who has a serious health issue worthy of him considering packing it in , and believe me he probably is, need to get off the crazy train lol
