Think that’s the goal of the fans. I doubt Sutter sees it that way. He’s going to be using final games as practice for next season.Flames are out and I’m not sure if we will even see any call ups like Phillips , ruzizka ect. Might see Kylington but won’t be surprised if that’s it.

The Flames are also not eliminated from playoffs yet. Montreal needs 1 point but I can see the Flames continuing to try and win with the main lineup until they are eliminated. Once that happens I’d be shocked if we didn’t see some of the young guys

Yup, so smooth in every area of the ice. He’s the type of D that is the best guy out there defensively, and yet he’s your top scoring guy from the backend. Kind of reminds me of Pietrangelo. Always 2 steps ahead.

I actually pray we get Johnson. I should be praying for an end to hunger, and for world peace, but I want him on this team. I’m not high on Eklund, I don’t really think we need another smurf, but BPA I guess....

Any one of the top 8 is a great pick. Assuming the majority of the lists are the same. Those 8 are all really great prospects.
I'm kind of hoping the Flames can nab another mid 1st. There's some neat picks in there too.

Some sleepers for sure. I think the top 8 are NHLers by either first season or after d+1, but there are some mid picks in the first that can be great players, just going to need some additional seasoning for 3-4 seasons and they can be golden.

One thing to take into consideration for our draft pick... There is always fallers, and I truly think the Blue Jackets (if they're outside the top 5, they have 2 other 1sts to take forwards/defenseman) or San Jose may take Wallstedt with their pick. I think if we stand pat, we should be able to snag one of the top 8.

I would bet that if all the leagues were playing - and those that did play had full seasons - that the top 8 would look very different. I mean, there were some lists in 2015 that had both Kylington and Andersson in the top 10 during the initial preseason draft rankings, and they both ended up getting picked in the 2nd round.
There are always risers and fallers. Some players in those top 8 would have a poor season, or simply not take that big step forward, or have others below them take bigger steps.
This draft is really going to be difficult to predict. That's why I am not going to fall in love with any of the prospects (I mean, I usually don't anyway).

Very true. I know I keep harping about these players, but there’s some quality OHL talent in this draft (Stillman and Pinelli) that could really surprise on draft day. Those two are top-15 talents, at the very least. And of course, there’s more around the world that would rise or fall if it was a full schedule. As in-depth as scouting is these days, it’s hard to predict what a prspect will be based on what you saw in their D minus 1 year.

As of now, if the Flames lose all their remaining games, they would have the 6th best odds for the draft lottery. This includes Seattle.

Yep, got passed by a couple of teams today.
Don't worry though, Flames will dig deep now that it doesn't matter anymore.

Buffalo, Anaheim and New Jersey can't pass us. The only team behind the Flames that can pass them now is Vancouver, and they'll have to keep the Flames to one out of a possible eight points in their 4 game set to finish the season, plus the Flames need to lose to Ottawa as well.
Best case for the draft is 5th last with Seattle included prior to the lottery.
With just a single point in the last 5 games though, the Flames will tie both Columbus and Detroit who are done, and the Flames have more wins already so they win the tie break.
San Jose, LA, Chicago, Ottawa and Arizona are all still passable too if the Flames decide to "Flames it up" and win a bunch of meaningless games at the end here.
My bet is they will go into the lottery with the 8th pick.

I'm guessing 12th but trade down into the 20's or trade their first rounder.

Wasn't sure if any of you remember watching great content from YouTuber 'Draft Dynasty' last year who provided comprehensive breakdowns on each draft eligible player for the first round. I was wondering why he wasn't making videos for 2021 and it appears hes been snatched up by the Canadiens as a amateur video scout. Pretty cool to see someone go from YouTube to a NHL organization. Sucks for us as his videos were my favourite resource for getting to know draft eligible players games in depth.

Oh yes, I'm subscribed to him. He was probably the best YouTuber when it came to draft and prospect coverage.
I wasn't aware that he was hired by the Canadiens, so that explains the absence. Good for him.
He didn't just compile videos. He actually had pretty thorough and insightful analysis on what he saw.
I think the Flames will pick pick 10th with Seattle included. Technically 11th is more likely, but I'm optimistic.

This might be the year. This draft seems D heavy at the top, and it’s not like you need this kid to step in next year. Top end D this year, then one or both of the C studs the next two. Profit!

I had no idea Mason MacTavish’s dad played 9 games for Calgary in 1996-97.

Yup, Dale McTavish. I had hopes that he would crack the lineup as a checker back in the day....
