Do people actually think that a network should not be talking about someone who just got 100 pts in a shortened season?

Totally, its impressive but the schedule is definitely a factor. When the Leafs are the best defensive team you play all year a player like him is going to rack up the points.

I would bet everything I own that he won't be at this pace next season

Not really. The Flames are top-10 in goals against this year. The Jets are 12th. The Sens are the only Canadian team in the bottom-10.

If anything, the North has been the hardest division for scoring this year.

Bottom-10 Goals Against Teams per Division:

North – 1
East – 3 (the 3 worst defensive teams in the NHL)
West – 3
Central – 3

McDavid > Flames

At this point, I’d even say Oilers > Flames

We suck y’all. Time to accept the fact that the Oilers have surpassed us, albeit due to the best player in the world, but surpassed us nonetheless.

Johnny in his prime would have done the same thing in this joke of a division.

I never post—and generally appreciate the commentary—but ripping McDavid for hitting 100 points is just bush-league. Sometimes greatness supersedes rivalries.

I can assure you he wouldn't have.

This hasn't been done in 25 years. By anybody. And the North only really has one terrible defensive team. It's probably the hardest division for McDavid to have done this.

Some of these excuses are getting preposterous.

Pretty hard to compare like that when they don't play against each other. Other divs have more high end deep teams. Canadian div has one deep team and a bunch of average at best

Why isn't Matthews doing it, then? He's better right now than Gaudreau has ever been. And he has way more help than McDavid does.

You can appreciate how ridiculous McDavid is while still recognizing the Oilers aren't all that great and probably won't win a Cup with him.

Maybe I will cheer for the cats since they're just rolling over every one with a roster full of underrated players.

I mean if he puts up 155 next year I will eat crow and say its not the division but it seems pretty obvious its a factor.

Is Matthews gonna score 70 next season?

Its easy to say the East has bad defensive teams too but they also have the Caps, Pens, Bruins, and Islanders.

The idiots up north have been gifted power plays and 2 man advantages all year. Johnny would have excelled as well given those opportunities.

He has 40 goals...his career high is 47

Is the Canadian div and tired teams a factor or is he gonna put up 70 next year?

Thanks for the warm welcome. Moved to Canada roughly 9 months ago and have been watching Flames hockey this season because that’s the only show in town at the moment. My wife is from the area and loves this team. I just don’t understand the inferiority complex from some on this forum.

Hate to break it to you... but entering tonight's game, the Oilers had received just four more power plays than Calgary this season in one more game.

Basically identical PP opportunities for both players. But the Oilers' PP has been automatic — nearly 10% better than Calgary's — because McDavid is ridiculous.

Nah. It really doesn't.

The Oilers are averaging 2.06 goals a game vs Toronto and Montreal (probably the 2 best d cores in the divisions). Against Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Ottawa they are averaging 3.81. I'm sure if you looked up his points against each team, it would probably reflect something similar. Calgary, Ottawa and Vancouver are all in the bottom 10 teams in the league and the Jets #1 D pairing is Morrisey and Pionk. Connor is playing at a pace hes never ever come close to. Same thing with Mathews, 40 goals in 49 games equals a 67 goal pace. Ovechkin has only cracked 60 goals once and that was when he hit 65, 13 years ago and he may be the greatest goal scorer ever. I'm sorry but the North sucks.
