Suppose Darryl is the wrong coach for this team, name say 2-3 coaches that would be a good fit (question not directed at anyone in particular).

They hoped but expecting any coach to turn a season around with 25 games left in a short season is a tall order. It was worth getting a head start going into next season IMO.
The good thing now is if they ever questioned how certain players could perform under good coaching they have those answers now instead of mulling over what if.

Gallant or Boudreau would be good picks IMO. This just isn't a Sutter team and doesn't have that potential in the near future.

I'm ok hearing that he might be grating on players. Thats what we should want. So much complaining about the G.A.S. meter of these players and the supposed club med attitude they should start to feel uncomfortable.
There are players on the team that want to put in the work and want to win. There are players not with the team that could soon be who want to put in the work and want to win. Keep and collect those players. Foster a new culture by extracting the bad seeds who would rather maintain the status quo.

I was fine with both. I am highly skeptical at this point any coaching staff could make this core a contender. How many coaches need to be rotated in before this is clear? And yes I was one of the people that said this team desperately needs a legit coach.
Well I was wrong, at least so far. This core is some combination of lazy, out of shape, lacking skill and determination, size, grit and in general give-a-care factor.

A lot of us were curious if it was the coach or the core. You might not like Sutter or the results thus far but I think even the most skeptical have their answer.
Its the core.

After Darryl came here I understood the following things which I hope players too.
- These players think there are stars and they don't need to work harder in Gym and in the game. But in reality their condition so bad that can't handle fast games or physical games.
They can't skate fast, can't make decision fast and can't pass or shoot. They need lots of training during offseason
- Now they have a culture that losing is OK until playoff starts or being passenger is OK if the game is won. There is no leader to unite the group and to work harder as a group. They don't trust each other or play for each other.
So I'm hope these problems will be corrected when Darryl is here.

I think Sutter is awesome and knows how to win. My take is if he can't whip a team into shape then it ain't happening.

Sad and pathetic to hear some players in the post game press conference talk about still having a chance, 5 games left, not out of it, etc. Pathetically un-clutch group of players still talking about 'leaving it all on the table' for the remaining games. Big f'ing LOL.
At least Sutter's was straight forward about the players sucking and great to hear him pick a fight with Francis and shake his head at him at his presser. Legit best part of the game.
Hopefully what happened to the Rangers benefits the Flames. Ownership did well to bite the bullet with Ward and bring Sutter. Excellent opportunity to do the same with upper management. I don't have faith they will do the right thing, but the opportunity is laid out in front of them.
Make a statement this season and collection of players/management is not acceptable and start fresh.

Some posts mentioned getting rid of Darryl are out to lunch. Like others have mentioned before, as bad as the team has been for much of the season, had Darryl been with the team from the start we would probably be in the playoffs.

If Daryl Sutter has not proven to Treliving and ownership unequivocally that the talent level of the team is a problem. Nothing ever will.
I guess on the bright side these guys don't look like they can win any more games, so that should get them good lottery odds.
I expect that if them and Vancouver have to play the last 4 games, it will be puck drop and guys standing still for 20 minutes at a time. When it gets to the shootout guys will take one step forward and than skate back to make the play illegal. It will be the ultimate game of tank.

I can definitely agree that the roster as it is constructed is not ideal for a Sutter coached team.
What I don’t agree with is that Gallant or Boudreau would meaningfully improve the results. It’s just a dud roster with poor centre depth, a lack of speed, a lack of grit, and a general lack of talent.
I would have been happy with Gallant or Boudreau being named head coach, and am happy with Sutter being hired - but no coach is going to overcome this poorly constructed roster and the weak locker room.

The test tube born hybrid android composite consisting of the DNA of Al Arbour, Scotty Bowman, Barry Trotz and Joel Quenville would fail to generate any success with this roster. It’s a bad bad bad roster filled with players that are rowing in different directions at all times. Complacent core players forming the loser culture
in the locker room that will envelop anyone that enters those doors. Never mind an inconsistent game to game effort, This team barely even conjures up successive shifts that could be deemed competitive, you truly never ever know what performance you will get from these players. They don’t stand up for themselves, they’re soft, they play uninspired perimeter hockey. it’s not the coach

I might be in the minority but I genuinely enjoy Darryl Sutter's brand of hockey just on it's own. I enjoyed watching games against the Kings in part because of that. I especially enjoy watching it in the playoffs.
That said, those mixed feelings a lot of people had when he was brought back seem very justified right now. This just seems like the worst possible time to hire him. This doesn't feel like the right team for him, and probably not the time for the franchise. We needed a top coach to build the team into winners 2-5 seasons ago, but right now we mostly need a new GM and a rebuild.
I really hope my pessimism of late is unwarranted, but it's just so, so hard to find reasons to care and have hope right now.

I am not a huge fan of Sutter's style per se, but he is a great, proven coach...
The idea or rumors that he is 'grating' on players makes me chuckle a little bit: The players have had "player's coaches" before and didn't do much and they have had hard nosed coaches, also with limited success (though Peters' first year was very impressive until the playoffs).
Sutter has Stanley Cup rings...This core has accomplished jack#### in the last 7 years...
Honestly, time to ship out the malcontents...changing coaches almost every year hasn't done a thing; time to start moving 'the core' imo

His brand of hockey works well in the playoffs because the whistles get put away and they are already well versed at the grind required to win a cup but it makes for an trying 82 game regular season. It's why his cup winning Kings teams were only 8th seeds. I just don't know if the Flames have the horses to grind things out for a full season like those Kings teams did and even at that the Kings eventually broke.

That loss was a step in the right direction - for the upcoming draft So, I'm happy in that sense. Come to think of it, Flames should be tanking until the end of 2022 season.

Hope they trade Kylington so we don’t have to hear about him anymore.
It’s obvious they view him much differently than many posters.

So, it's the coaching and not the players? They're fine?
