I also had a disasterous experience with an extended warrenty on a TV with them. That was the final straw and they will never see a pennie of mine again.
I'm suprised about people who don't like pay shopping carts or places that charge for plastic bags.
Those are 2 of my favorite things in retail. The shopping cart thing costs you nothing and is just a common sense solution to messy parking lots. Compare a Superstore parking lot with a Zellers and think of how many parking stalls at Zellers have carts in the way where you want to park.
The plastic bag thing is for environmental reasons and has nothing to do with making more money. I applaud any company who cares enough to do it. Is it really that hard to save you plastic bags and bring them with you next time you go shopping?
It's amazing that people care so much about saving 3 cents, but don't care 1 bit about saving the environment.
Ikea is going to charge for bags soon. They predict they can cut plastic bag use in half within 1 year and are even lowering the price of their reusable blue bags. Again, THIS IS NOT ABOUT TAKING YOUR MONEY

Yeah, why are people complaining about paying directly for bags? Wherever you go where they give you bags, you're paying for them. It's just included in the price.
I appreciate the fact that I usually save a ton of money when I go to Superstore for groceries. Paying 3 cents a bag is fine with me.

Probably because before you 5 people were snobby to them for working in retail. It's a 2 way street, and get's old and usually gets taken out on someone who doesn't deserve it. I try to help everyone that I can and offer some of my knowledge but some people are beyond helping. (Not saying you are.) Sometimes being as helpful as you can get's you the look of "Why am I talking to this idiot who works in retail." which then garners the response look of "**** you, you uppity *****." meanwhile we both just keep smiling and nodding like we care. I've had customers yell at me because we're out of stock, like somehow I control the amount of stock we get.
But back on topic. I don't have any place on my boycott list really. I've worked in a Kitchen and Retail and know how little fun it can be, and how much hard work it can be, so I shove a bad experiance to the side and go back. I've had some bad experiances in BP's, but never in the lounge.

Future Shop in Northland Village is permanently boycotted for gross mismanagement.
The Honda dealership on 32nd Ave nearest 32nd st (dont remember exactly where) is also permanently boycotted as a result of a salesman getting caught in a bald-faced lie. "No, buying a new Civic wont cost any more in insurance than a seven year old Grand Am does."
My temporary boycott list tends to fluctuate with bad commercials. Presently, Panago is tops on that list.

Depending on the type of cart a twist tie or a bread clip will open the cart. As a former Safeway employee we had many tricks to get the cart without inserting the quarter

I tend to avoid Future Shop or Best Buy. Everytime I bought an electronic item from these guys the sales clerk tried to steer me away from the item I was interested in buying to another brand.

I had a salesman do that to me once. I simply turned to his friend right beside him and asked him if he would process my purchase. The second guy didn't second guess a free commission.

Soundsaround, for a lot of reasons. Mostly because they jerked me around on an in-house (not manufacturer's) warranty I had on a CD deck. It took 8 months for them to finally do what they said they'd do at the very beginning - replace it. And they had it in stock. Every time I called them, it was a huge hassle.
Add to that the ridiculous obviously-on-commission salespeople, and it's just a horrid experience all around. It's the only place I can think of that I would never go back to.

I almost forgot about Soundsaround. I've never shopped there for that reason. They totally treat you like Sh*t if you aren't buying what they want you to.

One bad thing I heard about superstore is that if you've been working there for a while and making good money they'll fire you and try to re-hire you at the starting salary. Does anyone work there? Is that true?
|
That's exactly what they do. My son worked there. He was there for a couple of years and a buddy warned him to WATCH OUT! He was told they'd fire him for no reason. Sure enough, that's exactly what happened. He...um, better not say, because maybe one of the corporate stiffs is reading this. Suffice to say, you sneeze in front of the manager and he fires you. My son had gotten up to a pretty good wage so they want to dispose of those workers and hire newbies at half the salary.
If you want to boycott some store, do it for reasons like that. Not because you don't like the A&W Grandpa burger commercial. I like that commercial.
I think some of you guys are pretty intolerant.
Let's all boycott Superstore. Now that's a good cause.

Soundsaround is really wierd. They will price match Future Shop quite aggresively; so aggresively that oftentimes their price will be below Future Shop's cost. The guys at FS were always puzzled how Soundsaround could do this.

Kinda stunned. Mostly, I think, because his lie was caught. He tried to tell me that a certain computer system (a cicero no less) was better than the Compaq I was trying to buy because it had the "AMD 64 Processor that was optimized for anti-spam and anti-virus features."
The attempted upsell was bad enough. The bullcrap sales pitch put it way over the top.

Stampede Pizza - Not even sure they are around anymore. We got a couple lasagnas delivered once, the guy rang the doorbell then dropped the lasagnas. When my buddy got to the door, he saw the delivery guy scooping the lasagna back in the container off the sidewalk with his hands. Then he still wanted to be paid. Not really Stampede's fault, but not a great experience.
Boston Pizza - wife orders a Stromboli sandwich, it comes out with a half eaten fry with ketchup next to it. She sends it back, orders another and never gets it. We just walked out when no one came back to our table after 40 minutes.

ALl you guys hating on future shop I love it.
I bought my tv there and entertianment unit, got him to lower the price of the 57", and then he was trying to sell me cables I said if you lower the price off the tv more I will buy some cables, so he took another $200 off. plus it was 3 months don't pay and I convinced him to make it 12 months dont pay with no interest.
My friend use to work at future shop and told me they make more money off of cables so they can give you better deals.
I went back to a different future shop the next day and returned my expensive monster cables and bought them on ebay for a quarter of the price.
Then when they delivered the tv, there was a small scratch in the back, they offered to give me a new one or take another $100 off, no one can see it so I took that.
You people just need to learn how to use multi-million dollar corporations and ride them.
Other places that lost my business was capital one. The ad says the no hassle card, bull, these guys called me every week till I finally told them I moved and gave them a fake number.
I refuse to go to superstore especially the one in the NorthEast, has anyone ever seen the produce department there, what a joke.

I believe my only active boycott is Telus. Those thieves will never get a chance to try to steal money from me again.
Shaw and Bell serve me well.

Why would anyone trust a retailer that can so easily knock $200 off the price of a TV? Obviously they must be inflating the price of the TV to begin with and offering the discount to dupe the customer into thinking he got a great deal.
Just another reason to avoid Future Shop.

I don't think you are getting it. Let me explain.
Store sells a TV for $2000. "cost" is $1600; which is lower than the sales guy can go. He makes $80 comission on the TV.
Cables sell for $400. Salesperson makes $100 in comission on those.
So if he discounts the TV by $300, his comission on the TV drops to $30. So he can sell you the cables and TV and make $130, or the TV by itself and make $80. The store also makes about the same amount of money from you. That is; until you return the cables. The fact of the matter is; most people don't.

All a bunch of ######s at that dealership, and funny thing is it is almost time to get a new car for the both of us now, and if we had good service from there, the TL would have been an easy choice.
But now we are looking at the Infinity G35x or Lexus is250 instead.

Ah Forgot about them. I made an appointment to have an air bag sensor replaced (still under warranty) but I had to take it to Acura. Since there isnt one in Lethbridge I had to organize it for a weekend in Calgary. They had refused to do warranty service on a weekend for a good month until I bitched hard enough and told them im not taking a day off to bring my car there. So I take it in and when i come pick it up later in the day they say "ok it looks like you need to have your airbag sensor replaced, we will order one in". I was in shock. The problem had been diagnosed by the Honda in Lethbridge and I had specifically told them everything they needed to know in order to get the right peice. Anyway I had to come back another weekend and get it done. They also gouged on some service and let the rich bitch in the fur coat bud the payment line cause she obviously had lots of money and was more important... nothing like waiting in line for 10min to pay some @$$hole $1000 for rip off service.
At least I never need to return since I Sold my Acura.
