You have to remember that the league ruled the Wilson incident on Monday as self-defense. So everything the Rangers did last night was aggression.
I mean, the headline on NHL.com today is "Oshie scores hat trick mourning father." Like nothing happened.

Mantha is chasing him around the ice, slashing him, and is clearly coming back against the flow of play to give Buchnevich a cross check of his own.
Buchnevich see's him coming and goes "Screw this I'm going to get you first"
If you aren't going to call penalties, or suspend players taking advantage of skilled players, then the skilled players are going to need to get their sticks up to defend themselves. The league and refs let this get out of hand with their inaction.

I watched the first two periods and Buchnevich was running all over the ice hunting and hacking. Went after Wilson, and after he left he carried it on to others.
Chara even challenged him. And it was deserved.
Don’t get me wrong, I almost enjoy that the players went out and mocked the league.

I think its hilarious that some people are now up in arms about the Buchnevich cross check. Yes it was dirty, but he's got to defend himself from all the oafs on the other team. He's not a fighter, he was the one in a prone position getting cheap shotted by Wilson the previous game, and now he has to take the high road when Mantha is chasing him around the ice? The Caps players think they can just keep dishing out the dirty plays on him and not have any recourse? Laughable.
In a just league it'd be a $5000 fine and the league would recognize their part in creating this mess. But they will suspend him maybe for multiple games, because the league is run by hypocrites. If I was the NYR owner I'd pay his fine and missed salary for him and give him a good old pat on the back.

Tom Wilson is a dirty player, but in this case he did not do anything that criminal. Sure a roughing penalty for the shot to the shoulder/head was warranted. But a life suspension?Yikes. The stick crosscheck last night was 100x worse than anything that happened in the previous game. And yes, the guy was triggered, he was out to prove himself and it was 100% retaliation. He should get a few games for that.
The NYR should be heavily fined for their press statements and their coach should be suspended for the antics. They wanted a war last night. Not the Caps.
Didnt Sutter and Heartley get suspended for similar things as coaches here?
And let's not be hypocrites. Many of you loved it when resident Flame tough guy Berube was literally chasing an unwilling player (Friesen?) to beat him up. Many to this day love Engelland for punching Canucks players with straights. Many other incidents in the dome to bring back.
|
My issue is slamming a guy to the ice with no helmet on. He could have hit his head, a skate could have clipped him, super reckless and dangerous. Panarin was simply trying to grab Wilson to prevent him from punching Strome. You are big enough to subdue the guy without throwing him to the ice. Generally in todays NHL, when somebody loses a helmet whether it be in a fight or a scrum, guys try to make sure that player isn't put in a position where he may hit his head. The incidents you are referring to all involved helmets being on.

Who is “up in arms”? I’ve been bitching about how poorly the league handled this all week. And how last night was their fault.
Man, why does everyone always jump to be on a side against others… that’s the hilarious part of this.
Can’t even say “well ####, that was ugly and should be suspendible too”. Nope, gotta be pro caps/Wilson or anti caps/Wilson.

Sorry but it's not Wilson's responsibility to worry about Panarin's helmet. These aren't children. Panarin's act was dumb, you don't jump a huge enforcer with a helmet on, never mind without.
And let's not pretend that Wilson couldn't have been hurt by Panarin's jump. He could have fallen backwards on his head.

Was this even a cross check? One hand on the stick, just looks like he didn't see him coming right away and when he did he punched him with his stick in his hand.
Not even sure it's high sticking, roughing sure but I don't think it's a suspension

Mantha was being a punk, I didn't mind the Buch crosscheck.
If the league is going to step in and protect the players then you have to defend yourself and defend your team yourself.

It's not clear whether he got him with more gloves than stick but either way it's a suspension. It's basically the same thing as Wisniewski on Seabrook.

This is every topic regardless of the stakes at this point, and doubly so on the internet.

5k for Wilson
250k for speaking out about it. Amazing.

It' not ok to use a stick as a weapon because someone punched you in a scrum. Can't allow it.
I understand the anger with Parros, but let's not forget how many of similarly dirty plays Matthew Tkachuk is in the middle of. Didn't he just recently land on a goalie's head by "accident" ? And I do recognize that Wilson's punch was nothing accidental. There are hundreds of similar plays every season. I mean Crosby's rumble the other day is not THAT much different. But it's Sid the Kid so the media is ok with it, a star protecting himself. Next time McD throws an elbow in somebody's head he will get praise as a frustrated star that the league doesn't protect.

Buchnevich gets a hearing for the cross check. Even though Mantha was acting in a predatory fashion.
This whole ordeal makes me like the sport, and this league less.
Good to know you can punch someone while they’re laying face down on the ice, but defending yourself when someone tracks you around the ice is a no-no. When the play ended Mantha even turns back and goes towards Buchnevich to kick it all off.

The NHL created the circus by giving a joke fine to a guy who pulled someone's hair and slammed them on the ice. #### the NHL and their "professionalism." Total joke.

Mathew Tkachuk or Sidney Crosby have never smacked a skilled players face (Buchnevich) into the ice in a scrum and then followed it up with a head/body slam of a helmet-less super star player (Panerin).

The problem is a player trying to hurt players for years now in the NHL with a proven track record is getting 5k fines. Teams that are fed up are getting 250k fines.
The league looks like an absolute joke right now. I mean, it's just ridiculous. I expected a fine, but this is silly.

Jumping Wilson? Come on, man. Versteeg said it perfectly on the radio the other day. He's a smaller skill guy who's been in thousands of these scrums, grabbed bigger guys like Wilson and this had not happened to him once. When Panarin is coming in there to grab Wilson he's essentially a traffic cop trying to break things up and separate players. Wilson knew who he was and what he was doing and it was 100% unnecessary.
