John Davidson used to host "That's Incredible!" so he's probably a good evaluator of talent.

In his time as interim general manager of the bruins, gorton most notably ran the 2006 nhl entry draft which produced for the bruins phil kessel, milan lucic and brad marchand. At the same draft, gorton traded goaltender andrew raycroft to the toronto maple leafs for goalie prospect tuukka rask.[3] raycroft was coming off a subpar season and his two-year stint in toronto would prove disastrous, with the leafs buying him out of the final year of his contract.[4] rask, meanwhile, had been selected in the first round of the 2005 nhl entry draft by toronto and went on to win the vezina trophy as the league's best goaltender in the 2013-14 season.[5] rask has also led the bruins to two stanley cup finals appearances; in 2013 and 2019. On july 1, gorton signed zdeno chara and marc savard as free agents. Chara would go on to win the norris trophy in 2009 as the nhl's best defenseman while under the contract signed by gorton.

I'm also pretty impressed by how far the NYR have come in 2 years.

IIRC, Gorton laid the foundation for the Bruins’ Stanley Cup Team: he drafted and traded for a number of players on that team, while he was the interim GM there (just before Chia got hired). I would be excited if the Flames brought him onboard

His time in NY has been as mediocre as the Flames record. With better tools at his disposal. Decent regular seasons but no PO success. And it’s gone downhill since he got rid of Vigneault.

HIs interim GM of the Bruins days are 15 years ago. I’m not putting a lot of stock in them.

The firing of Davidson is interesting given the short time frame he was in.

Anyone who pays even remote attention to the NBA knows how much of a disaster Dolan is as an owner. The Knicks are pretty much succeeding this year in spite of him after being in the dumpster for 20 years. In a league where the salary of the top player is capped, and New York offers the best chance to market yourself and make obscene money and fame...no one wants to go near that thing. He often is cited as the worst owner in North American Sports.

The stupidity of Dolan (perhaps Davidson wouldn't let Dolan's band play the anthems every night?) has given our heroes a chance to go and redeem themselves. Come on, shock me, and stop being the Bengals.

Now that the Knicks are good Dolan needs to ruin his other franchise.

If the Flames get Davidson and Gorton, I will get season tickets, and donate 90% to Big Brothers (my kids would stab me in my sleep if I disn't take them to a couple of games each).

It’s one thing to fire the president and gm . It’s a while other thing to give Drury a newbie Gm also the title of president . If anybody needed a “springboard” president it would be him. Think the owner is nuts

Treliving had Burke over top of him before and I don't think they have actually replaced Burke's position. JD would be filling that if he came in.

I am thinking similarly. Hiring JD would not necessarily be the end of BT. He would have a new boss, but JD would basically represent ownership and be another hockey guy to lean on. I would bet he would give BT another season to see if they are simpatico.
