Flames Should Kylington be getting more playing time?

I feel like this is something that's brought up in lots of threads lately, so a specific thread on this subject seems appropriate. And with the recent Bennett situation that's seeing him currently thrive with a team that's giving him full opportunity, it does raise the question if Kylington is another player being held back to the Flames self imposed determent?

I'm usually a "well, the organisation must know what they are doing" kind of guy but after the Sam Bennett fiasco I may change my tune. Play Kylington. Give him some rope, let him do his thing and see how it plays out.

Yes but I still have this feeling they are trying to keep him under the radar and away from Seattle

No, he has to earn the ice time. Not quite sure who he would be higher on the depth charts.

But they put him on waivers which clearly means they were willing to lose him. And it's not like his cap hit would prohibit teams from taking him.

I don't wanna see it turn into a situation like it did with Kulak. He ended up a pretty d man after all.
I don't remember all of the circumstances as to why we didnt/couldn't keep him here so forgive me if I'm speaking without all the information.

Yes, he should be in the line up and he should also be given time on the top powerplay to see what they have in him. The fact that we are near the end of the season and they are still rotating guys in on the powerplays including the first powerplay unit (Hanifin, Andersson, and Giordano all got looks fairly recently) is a pretty clear sign that nobody has taken that role and thrived in it.

I've been burned before by defensemen on the bubble like Wotherspoon who I thought deserved a spot and it turned out that he couldn't make it anywhere either, but now that we are in the dead time of the season I would love to see him at least get a shot. Get Mackey in there too, he had a good offensive season in the AHL.

Don't think it matters much. Can't see any future where he's still on this team next season.

I think he’ll be elsewhere next year. I think he’ll thrive and turn into a really good defenceman. And I think we’ll wish the Flames gave him an opportunity.

He has looked very solid whenever he’s played this year, and he has pretty amazing natural abilities.

The reason I see him going elsewhere is that Giordano, Hanifin, Valimaki and Mackey will all be prioritized by the organization. I see Kylington being taken in the expansion draft or not being re-signed and just walking for free because he doesn’t really have trade value.

All players that the Flames keep are garbage, because the Flames are the worst organization in the history of forever, and everything they do is wrong.

All players that the Flames trade away, or even look like they might move on from, are incredible superstars with amazing natural abilities, because the Flames are the worst organization in the history of forever, and everything they do is wrong.

It is known, Khaleesi.

He’s a RFA with a low QO, why not?

I'd like to see a younger line-up overall. See what we have in the organization for next year

In his 6 games this year, I thought Kylington played a much more conservative game and used his skating to maintain good gaps through the neutral zone and break up other teams’ rushes and prevent zone entries. He was sound defensively. I thought I saw serious growth in his game compared to earlier on in his career. His development has taken a while, but I believe he could turn into a pretty great defender because of his skating.

There must be a reason why the eye test on Kylington by fans show he should be played but yet three coaches now don't give him much of a sniff.

Attitude problem perhaps?

He did pass through waivers at league min salary...maybe the fan eye isn't the best

Could also be due to the lack of playing time that he's an unknown commodity throughout the rest of the league?

Are there any relevant examples of players that clear waivers, and end up becoming prominent players later on in their career? Martin St. Louis is an example I can think of.

It's the same reason as Bennett in the past.

They've "pre-selected" their guys (Hanifin+Valimaki / Monahan+Backlund) and don't really employ a meritocracy.

Darryl Sutter basically admitted as such previously, saying that "there's nothing Kylington's doing wrong, but we're just playing Valimaki".
