I struggle to think of a more un-clutch team in the entire league. Need a big goal? More often than not it's a struggle to score. Need a big win when the season's on the line? Big woof. Need a franchise changing player to take your team over the hump? LOL.
What happened to all the talk of lesson's learned from season's past? What kind of lessons were learned that are still being applied to as of today? Just a stinker of a team when they needed a win to keep it going.

I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes either, but I also don’t want him in his shoes.
We’ve seen enough, this is his end product within what was supposed to be our window, and it is putrid.

This team. Is still awesome! Keep this team together, maybe trade some futures for additional mediocre scoring and Daryl will have this team playing amazing!!! They will probably get bounced in the first round again and then have another garbage season and be worse moving forward because they have no prospect depth but the fans are emotionally attached to these players!
It makes no sense to "tank" and try to rebuild slowly with prospects, most prospects have 0 NHL experience! Instead, trade picks and whatever prospects there are for strong 2-way guys who have good character!!
Don't try to sell hope, people want pride and futile effort!

I think you forgot that they'll fire the coach by December because it's always the coaches fault in Calgary.

I’d argue an offensively anemic defence is a bad defence in today’s NHL.

Well to be fair Sutter did say he wasn’t going to be changing any systems this late in the season just trying to change players habits and compete level. So technically you’re right, but not Sutters fault, his test comes next season.

Because Brad's best suck at hockey (which is fine, it is only year 7 of the rebuild) that will be the most satisfying point of the season for us Flames fans.

Mike Smith has had a hell of a season after almost everyone except for Ken Holland wrote him off. Oiler fans were pissed. Flames fans lolled. Hockey fans shook their heads. Yet Smith has proven himself still worthy with an outstanding season. As a Flames' fan it sucks to say. Dude has always been a competitor. But have to give credit where it's due; he has earned the absolute right to gloat and rub #### in our collective faces and frankly good on him.
He put that team on his back to at least get them there. Something no Flame fan can say about ANY player on this team. It's sad the only thing we have to look forward to his Mike f'ing Smith crashing 'n' burning in the playoffs .

The complete lack of movement and offensive ability on the blue line stood out to me last night. Gio is now our only defender in the top 50 in league dman scoring (37th). Over seven years, Treliving has built a d corps of stationary shin pad snipers well suited for the league twenty years ago. He's done so by losing one of the most dynamic blue line puck movers the team has ever developed for nothing and burying another promising one for the past 5 years. Great team management and philosophy all around.

Not sure why I even look at spector’s articles. For a laugh I guess. Here’s another beauty:
“ In a Battle of Alberta where Matthew Tkachuk has yet to look Darnell Nurse in the eye, McDavid gave Milan Lucic a poke in the chops after the two had some contact.”
Oiler logic right there. Tkachuk should have to fight Nurse now? And because Connor took a cheap shot at lucic knowing the refs would protect him he’s tough now? Spector still has the mind and maturity of a 19 year old oilers fan living in his parents basement.

I just don't trust him anymore to build a contender. It's time.

Near the end of the game the puck was in the Oilers corner and Gaudreau raced in to get the puck. He beat everyone to the puck but instead stopped about 8’ shy. Oilers easily cleared the puck out. Flames will never win anything with this core when the best player is to scared to sacrifice his body when the game is on the line. He would rather lose the game than battle for the puck and risk getting hit.
Also he scored 1 time 5 years ago by shooting from the Corner goal line. Gone 0 for 200 ever since.

I don’t usually complain about Gaudreau’s sharp angle shot because often it’s the only play he has (though it’s fair to complain if he worked himself into that spot I guess). But last night he took that shot at least 3 times, and twice when there were plenty of other options. And it played into Smith’s strength - being big and pretty solid when he doesn’t have to move.

I would disagree with that.
He's drastically improved the team's play away from the puck from tire fire to a pretty competent group through the lineup.
Pretty much pick a metric ...
He's improved
CA60 by 13%
SA60 by 18%
xGA60 by 15%
SCA60 by 12%
HDCA60 by 21%
Expected five on five goal splits went from 51% to almost 54%.
NHL teams that have been around 54% on the season in expected goal splits? Only five teams with better marks Colorado, Toronto, Florida, Carolina and Montreal.
Honestly the team would be in a playoff spot if Markstrom was fully recovered when Sutter took over.

It’s not the team quality, it’s the team atmosphere I’m concerned about. You can learn a losing attitude (look up north).

What are we supposed to be looking at? A team that's easily walking to second in the division and has a pretty good shot at making the conference finals?

They’ve also had just as much success as us in the modern era, and are primed for future success. Meanwhile the Flames have…nothing, and one of the worst prospect pools in the league.

After the tough start, I thought the Flames out played the Oilers for most of the game.
Basically the Flames lack offense.
Their forwards, don't have the offensive capability
Flames defensive is under producing
