Shortsighted take by Bieksa. Hard to have your top defensive players on the ice all times against McDavid when the Oilers have the last change and McDavid plays 10 more minutes than most top forwards.

Bieksa made a good point about the Flames and then MacLean just ignores him and talks about McLeod

I’ve watched that Pull my RV play 7 times and a couple in slow mo and I can in no way find a Valimaki hook in there.

Maclean is the worst. He was only bearable when Cherry was there to put him in his place and generally just talk over him.

Worried after mcdingus was shut out the other night he and crybaby Leon would come back strong tonight. I had fears of one of those 7-1 losses. I hope I’m wrong and the flames come back here.

Plus most of them were centers.
But still, his criticism of having guys like Gaudreau on the ice is valid IMO

Current coach was not around for early losses. And yup talent is maxed out at mediocre at best.

Darryl is so right when he says we can’t keep up with the pace of the game. Watching the Habs and Sens an hour ago makes that abundantly clear. I bet speed wise we are the slowest team in the league.

edit: or our players are not in playing shape.

Right of way so it doesn’t matter if we do anything against the rules or not.

I don't understand the lack of physical contact on McDavid. Just put a hand on him when he is skating at you, stop backing off and trying to play the stick or the puck. Just get in his way.

I think there has to be a focus to subdue McDavid. Sure, he plays a lot but at some point, even with not having the last change, the flames should have defensively conscious players out there as much as you can. Not saying Sutter isn’t trying to do that, but in general when you have a player who can singlehandedly dangle through your lineup, it needs to be a group effort.

Or just get someone to shadow him as much as you can.

Would like to see the Flames hungry in the last 40.

And if you are going to end up losing, do not let the 2-man crew just pour it on.

Current coach is still accountable for his record, which is not much better than Ward. That being said nobody can polish a turd into a diamond.

Couldn't agree more, infuriating to watch them just back off and let him do what he is gonna do anyways.

But our only offensive weapons (maybe Johnny can recapture it) have proven they're not the kind of players that can just turn it on and score. Instead they're very good complimentary players, who would be great riding shotgun next to great players.
It's clear that we're not close to winning the cup (which really should be the only goal), so if we trade them for younger assets/high picks, and miss the playoffs by 20 points instead of 2 points, it's ultimately the same outcome (but now we have a good base of young players to start working towards building a winning team).

I know back in my playing days, the last thing I’d do is to try and take the puck on a player like that. Take the body every time. Though McDavid is really like no other player in this generation with his ability to play the puck with speed and edge work, so it’s a daunting task.

So many better hosts available.

David Amber. Jennifer Botterill. Caroline Cameron. They all provide much better analysis and actually insightful conversation.

MacLean is awful, and has been for years.

Agreed.

It's a physical contact sport for a reason. It's an aspect of the game there to be used to your benefit. You have the option to take the man off the puck if you can't stick check him effectively.

Use it.
