They stopped McDavids much ballyhooed streak of 4 games with 3 points cold. Second game in a row they shut out the big 2 in Edmonton. That's worth enjoying playoffs or no playoffs.

First goal aside, I thought Markstrom really settled in and played a solid game last night.

I am pretty sure I don't understand the goalie interference rules back there at all. Smith is behind the net and Dube runs into him when actually trying to dodge him (half heartedly I'm sure). How is that a penalty?
Is it the trapezoid? Is that also a safe goalie space? I thought that was only there for limiting playing the puck.

That was a really good game for the Flames. I know the Oil were on a back to back but the Flames really controlled the second period and had some dominant stretches there. Markstrom was then stellar in the third when the Oilers loaded up. The Oil will be much better Saturday though and I worry what happens when McDavid is held off the scoresheet one game what he does the next game.
It is crazy that hope still remains for the playoffs. If the Flames get in they have some pretty key ingredients that were not on the roster last year which include an elite coach, top end goalie, and heart and soul defenseman. Still very long odds but glad to see the team slowly rounding into form after a horrible stretch

For a team than ranks 18th is xGF% they sure act like they are the most dominant team in the league.
When the Flames finished second in the league under Peters I don't remember our media ever whining like this when we lost, or complaining about every penalty that wasn't called.
Oilers media embarrasses itself pretty regularly.

The first time I heard that PBP guy, I thought monster-truck show. But he has settled in well, and I thought they were pretty good last night. Still a little bit of the monster truck thing, but he adds energy, and overall I thought they were good.

Another solid effort last night, and back to back games where they shut out McDavid and Draisaitl has to have Oiler fans losing their ####.
Even in a disaster-filled season, beating the Oilers is just so good.

I will say this for Jack Michaels—he can follow the play, and he describes it fantastically. He is still an awful homer with incredibly annoying bouts of inappropriately over-the-top faux reactions to nothing plays. The save Smith made on Lindholm during the second-period PK was dazzling, but Michaels called it like it was the greatest save of all time. Embarrassing.

I'll take him over Quinn and his "Connor McDaviiiiiddddd" any day.
I was pretty surprised at how he started the third talking about what the Flames had to do to finish the game and not what the Oilers needed to do.

I think part of the announcer's job is to add energy.
Look at NBA games... routine dunks get treated like they are the most amazing thing that has ever happened in sports. Every single night. But in hockey, we demand the announcers be more subdued, more level.
While I think the NBA is overdone, I think there is room for the dial turned up a little bit for NHL games

I think we got more Flames talk out of him than we do out of Cassie most nights.

“That might be Save of The Year Louie!” ...
Uh no. Probably doesn’t even make the top 100.

How many times did they claim McDavid was cross checked “in the face”? It was barely a crosscheck to the chest - more like a push forward with two hands. You see that every day with no call.

Announcers should drone out the play in monotone. They should show no emotion nor should they even care if anything ever happens in the game. In fact the games should be called by siri, with no inflection or inclination of understanding of what is going on.
That would be so fun....
Am I doing this right?

My dream final is Flames v Rangers with Sam Rosen calling the games.

How about they not have a cardiac? Or blather about the same thing the whole game.
I will give him this - he doesn’t do the “Russell pulled down ... no call” passive aggressive comment. He does say “Russell looks for a call but it doesn’t come”.

Am I the only one that thinks he was being sarcastic? The tv crew insinuated that this was an infraction against McD and Spec is telling oil fans to be honest about who was grabbing whom.
Or am i out to lunch?
