Adam Fox 43p in 47games.....i would not be surprised if he gets a crack at the Norris this year. Easily will be top 5 in voting.

Sam Bennett is putting up more than point a game for the Florida Panthers as their number two centre.

Adam Fox is almost a point per game defenseman for the New York Rangers.

Dougie Hamilton is pretty much doubling up on our highest scoring d-man man while playing Carolina Hurricanes.

Yeah, love hurts.

...but at least James Neal only has 3 goals and 3 assists in 19 games and is a constant healthy scratch for the Edmonton Oilers.

Cam Talbot has a .926 save percentage and 2.33 GAA to go with a 17-6-3 record...all for 3.666 cap hit. If the Flames goaltending had number like that, the team would be much better off.

I was all for re-signing Talbot last off-season.

At quick glance in the main menu I thought this thread title was “Player GROUND the league.” And thought there was a Covid shutdown.

I think his 0.919 save percentage last season was the best by a Flames goaltender not named Kiprusoff.

He is the type of goaltender who I think would do really well with a guy like Sutter coaching. Good technical guy in terms of positioning. He did have that bad game in the playoffs at a pretty critical time, and at this point I can see why people don't think he's a number 1 who'll play 60 plus games on a team playing a more open style. But if you want a systems guy who can play within a structured system for good value, that's exactly what he is.

I guess we'll see how he does in the playoffs this year and he's going to be in a tough matchup in round one playing either Colorado or Vegas. Which in a way might be the knock on him...good enough to make you a team in the 8-12th best team in the league range...problem is that many of those teams don't get thru the first round of the playoffs.

Not a player and not around the league…

Put DAZN on to see the start time of champions league, and KHL game shows up. I click the live game. First thing I see?

Bob Hartley’s smiling face as Avangard had just scored in their playoff game vs CSKA Moscow.

What a crazy technology world that we live in.

Yeah I got DAZN for the first time recently and I've caught some KHL action. I like watching other teams besides the same 31 clubs we always see.

Adam fox would have made our d look amazing. It's the biggest hit to the team in a long long time.

Do you honestly think he would have those numbers here? I don't

Canadian division isn't great overall but it is very high scoring can't rally deny it looking at league leaders.

You will feel better about Hamilton next season after he gets PAID. What do you guys think he gets as a UFA? 9?

I wish we had the problem of having to pay players 9 million because of their on ice performance.

Lindholm and Hanafin are both really good and on great contracts.

My point was more that he might leave though as a UFA.

Flames could have Lindholm and Hanafin and the Canes could have nothing

Classic missing the forest for the trees. Canes have built a young team in a contention window where Hamilton is a major contributor. They also have a deep enough team where they could make the gamble of maybe losing him for good shots at the cup, the whole point of the sport.

I'd rather have Hamilton, a shot at a cup, and the possibility that he walks than Lindholm and Hanifin and a 20th place finish.

I'd rather have Matthew Barzal plus Daniel Sprong

If Barzal were on the Flames, would he had gotten off of Jankowski or Ryan's wing?

IIRC Flames were high on Chabot that year, I'd take him and Sprong or Hintz over what we have now too.

I think the Flames might have been high on Chabot, but that had more to do with the fact that Barzal was expected to be drafted around 7th, 8th or 9th and no one expected him to fall to 15 than anything else. They were also high on Boeser and Connor too. I have a feeling the amateur scouts were really excited about that pick that day before that trade.

but yeah, I could totally see the Flames' coaching staff somehow thinking a Bennett - Jankowski - Barzal fourth line is the best use of the three assets.

That is a much bigger conversation than one trade...That isn't the deal that made the Canes. Anyway we will see what they win and if he comes back. All I said is if next year the Flames have two good players on good contracts and the Canes have nothing it's a pretty obvious win...unless they actually pull off a cup which is unlikely.

The exact number is not the point. It’s about value for money, whether he could reasonably perform equal to or better than Markstrom at 2.3 million dollars less

Talbot’s sv% is tied for 3rd in the league for goalies playing over 10 games.

And sure the Canadian division is high scoring but it’s not like Markstrom is above 6th out of the 7 goalies getting the starts in the Canadian division

Smith .923
Campbell .922
Demko .917
Hellebyuck .913
Allen .913
Markstrom .903
Murray .893

Markstrom would have to go full Hiller to put up such below average numbers under Sutter, any goalie would

But 6 million dollars is a lot of money for an average goalie based on a career year, and on a poll of GMs (most of whom probably aren’t looking for goalies but could sure get behind pumping up a UFA goalie for some other chump to sign lol)
