Vinyl fence anyone have one? Pros/ cons?
We are looking to replace some of our fencing.
I’ve liked the idea of a vinyl fence for awhile as they stay new and nice looking for fairly long time it seems.
Wood also looks nice but really not interested in staining/ painting and it gets rough looking pretty quickly.
Also with covid and the price of lumbar vinyl is fairly similar in price from the quotes I’ve received.
What are your thoughts on vinyl fencing? Does anyone have it ? Do you recommend?

I wouldn't get it. It doesn't stand up to anything. One hail storm will trash it.

Personally I think it looks pretty good but I also like wood. But majority of the time wood fences look like trash unless maintenance is kept up. So at least vinyl looks new longer.
There is a new wood fence close to where I live 1 year old and already looks not great. Wasn’t painted or stained though.
Hail damage could be a problem.. though

I think they generally look really good, too. Also great if you're not the type to re-stain every five or so years. I would have gone vinyl last time I did my fence if the price was similar to wood.

Probably depends on the brand and install, but my neighbour has one, and it flops about all over.

We did a simtek fence and it is tough as nails. Hail, baseballs, rocks nothing has even dented the fence. The crappy thing about them though is there gate hardware. It was a terrible design, kept falling apart and losing screws, so we finally ended up switching it out.

A house half-way up the block from us has vinyl fencing. White matching the white trim on the blue house. Looks really good I think. In the 8 years we have lived here, has stood up really well (we even got a close-up look, as we walked through the house when it was on the market)...

We looked at them as well - we weren't sold on the bright white so priced out the wood grain look. Ended up being quite a bit more( $46/ lin foot installed to $65/ lin foot). I think the materials are more expensive, than wood, but the cost savings is from the method of install - the 'no dig' method - the install would only take a day vs a couple for wood fence. We decided against it because of the movement in the wind - we have terrible wind in our neighborhood

I started to pay attention to fences because of this thread.
I feel like the really high quality vinyl ones I saw were really nice. The cheaper ones that were flexing everywhere and prone to scratches and weathering seemed to age worse than wood very quickly.
Hands down though, my absolute favourite was seeing a brand new cedar fence go up. Just absolutely fricken beautiful.

I'm not a cedar guy at all. I know fence people really like them, but I can't see it. They look like #### to me.
