If this was a regular 82 game season this team would be making the playoffs under Sutter. Ran out of runway. Move out whoever doesn't want to be here and have a good season next year. I like defensive hockey but you need guys who move their feet and make good decisions with the puck. Unfortunately this does not seem to be Tkachuks game at all. I would not be surprised if he is the one moved this year.
Hah.
The team was 11-12-2 before Sutter.
The team is 11-12-1 after Sutter.
It's not about the runway.

Just not enough natural finishers and that’s on management. I’ve been bellyaching about this team not having enough skilled finishers for years and what does Treliving do? He signs a defenseman and a goalie because he wanted goaltending to be a strength. Well, goaltending was not a strength this season, but the same old can’t score Flames once again couldn’t score. Hell, we score less goals than the Ottawa freaking Senators. The rebuilding Ottawa freaking Senators! who by the way kicked our damn ass this year.
This. The roster is not good enough.
Treliving abandoned the rebuild at the first sight of success and has shown a clear inability to improve the team through trades and signings. We've seen enough, he needs to go.

After everyone settles down and thinks about it, I think there is merit in letting Sutter run this group one full season and see what happens.
Treliving waited to long too pull the trigger, in fact, Sutter should have been here to start the year. But since then, while yes I know their record has been not great, you can see glimpses of better structure, more confidence, and a team that actually legit might figure it out.
Coaching matters. Fast forward a year under Sutter, not just one month. Do they look so lazy in that third period? I don’t think so. I don’t think they’re in a position like this at all actually.
Coaching does matter. But just the thought of another season with this group makes me want to puke myself inside out.

I agree, this team needs at least one more year. They're all fresh faced kids who haven't learned the game yet, give them one more year and just you wait!
These guys aren't getting better with age, they're not improving, they're actually getting worse with age. Keeping them together is going to guarantee we're in the same position next year.

[QUOTE=New Era;7839189]Let's just focus on the things the Flames didn't do here. The Flames did not play with urgency. The Flames did not generate many shots. The Flames did not penetrate the middle of the ice. The Flames did not get more than 10 feet from the boards for the vast majority of the night. Add them all up and you find out why the Flames did not win.[/QUOTE Montreal did everything right , eh! Give them credit where credit is due!
I think the Flames are horribly out of shape. And I’d bet that Tkachuk is the most out of shape one of the bunch. He pisses me off so bad because he never makes the simple play!! Always trying to make some fancy ass play that works once every 50 tries. KISS!!! Keep it simple, stupid!!

In a shortened season. Give them another 25 or whatever it is and I think they would have have ended up getting in too.
Does that mean that the team is fine and that there shouldn't be changes because it wasn't a full season? No. They definitely need to be made. But having Sutter right from the start would have benefited the team. He spent the last half of the season trying to shake the Ward stink off of them.

Monahan and Gaudreau are so far from being game breakers. They both used to be.
I don't understand posts like this. Gaudreau has been very good down the stretch and gets points every game. It has gotten to the point where no matter what he does some posters are going to rag about him. Wtf do you want from him? I have never seen a fan base that is so toxic toward their star players. This would be like Blackhawk fans bitching about Pat Kane and wanting to run him out of town because the BlackHawks are struggling. Just bizarre.

Please don’t put Johnny and Kane in the same sentence, never mind same category.
It makes you look bad.

Quit playing scared?
Stop with the turnovers time after time after time at the opposition blueline.
Quit flying the zone before the team actually has possession and actually play some defense.
Be engaged sometime before game 35 of the season?
He is as big a part of the problem on this team as anyone else and deserves no special treatment because he was really good 2 seasons ago. Same can be said for every core guy.
If he hasn't agreed to an extension by draft day, he must be traded. Period. Cannot let him walk for nothing even if you want him back to begin with.
You have been on and on about him but refuse to acknowledge the massive warts in his game.

Consistency!
Seriously though, the biggest takeaway is that our top guys are not playing like top guys, and the supporting cast can only take you so far. 0.500 sounds about right.
Tkachuk is the biggest concern for me. 5-on-5 he's invisible most nights. That's not going to cut it. Putting him with our two best forwards (Gaudreau and Lindholm) hasn't even helped. That's a problem.
