Flames Hanifin requires season ending shoulder surgery

Nick Kypreos
@RealKyper
If @NHLFlames catch the @CanadiensMTL they’ll have to do it without D Noah Hanifan. Hearing his season is over and surgery most likely needed. More on this developing story as we discuss @NHL playoff races today with @DougMaclean now! @Line_Movement

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
.@MFradiology Injury Update: #Flames GM Brad Treliving has announced that defenceman Noah Hanifin will require season-ending shoulder surgery as a result of an injury sustained last game. More information will be available later this week.

Well that would suck. Overcoming injuries is part of the game though and other teams have to do it too.

That stinks. Hopefully Hanifin is on the mend soon

Good thing Tre loaded up with Forbort, Gustafson, et al

Ouch, sad way to end what was a huge step forward season for him. I guess the Flames will have to find a way. Don't know if that's going to happen, but at least there's a chance.

He could be back for the 3rd or 4th round of playoffs I’m sure. It’ll be a huge boost at that point

Damn, but it's prime time for Kylington to get some serious reps. Unless Sutter goes all in on Nesterov.

Or Mackey. But Sutter hasn't dealt with Mackey yet. So Nesterov of Oliver. Who will it be.

Man what a bummer that Hanifin is gone. He was having a massive season. A season that bucked the Flames overall failures.

This season was the best I've seen Hanifin play as a Flame, hopefully he can build on it next year. Also hope this means Kylington finally gets a chance

Every year Tre seems to have loaded up on D

Except this year, when someone actually gets seriously hurt, and depth could come in handy

It’s ok though, Stone has been good. It will be interesting to see if we see Kylington at all or just more Nesterov

Sounds about par for the course for the Flames' season. His development was of the few bright spots.

Hopefully, it can be a rallying point for the team.

Hanifin was having a solid year, but I don't know if the results on the ice will change that much without him. I think others can pick up the lost minutes.

I dont know, Him and Tanev were the glue that held it together for most of the season. This is a pretty substantial loss. Even if it does create an opportunity for others to step up.

It’s going to be Nesterov.

Kylington has either lost all favour within this organization or they are hiding him from the expansion draft by not playing him.

I’m puzzled by how he is being managed.

Who, specifically, do you believe has the best chance of adequately filling his minutes?

And at the same time, Tanev- Hanifin haven’t been a thing lately

Gio and Andersson were ineffective, as Gio had to cover for Andersson and couldn’t play his game

The Giordano, Valimaki and Kylington. I anticipate that more consistent minutes and opportunity for the two younger guys will result in more composed play, and Giordano, while perhaps not capable of playing 25 a night, can probably add an extra shift or two. Will they make a few mistakes? Sure. Hanifin does, too.

I am curious if Sutter goes with two RD on the second PK unit though.
