Knights Freddy Brathwaite is back!

With Logan Thompson, the team's usual starter, out of commission for an undisclosed reason, the Vegas Golden Knights' AHL affiliate had to reach all the way back to the 2000 Calgary Flames to find their backup goalie for tonight's game.

It's Freddy Brathwaite! He's 48 and is currently the team's goaltending coach. And now he's back on the ice! What a story.

I still remember when he played his first game in Calgary. I was at that game. And I believe we won against the Dallas Stars 2-0. Freddy got the shut out and was the number one star.

He was on a crazy run there in the Fall of 2000. I seem to remember him going like 15 games with only a few close losses, and was always one of the best players on the ice.

I was very angry when Craig Button traded him for Roman Turek.

He has to be one of the most beloved players to ever play in Calgary.

Great to see him still part of the game, and looking young as ever.

Never mind, read that as being an emergency back up for the Knights.

Still really cool to see him still involved in the game. He was an incredible underdog story.

I was there as well. I believe it was 1-0.

The amount of goalies the Flames went through that year was insane.

Love me some Freddie! Brathwaite was the 2nd most exciting thing to happen during the Young Guns era, after Iggy's 50 goals.

Underrated part of this:

In the picture in the OP, Brathwaite is wearing an Atlanta Thrashers mask! Talk about a throwback.

I always liked Freddie and got to meet him after a game in 2001 when I went to Calgary to watch my first two games at the Saddledome. The first game they tied Pittsburgh 3-3 and lost the next night 3-2 in OT against the Wild. I think he only played the second game though.

The one thing I remember about that trip is me and my dad just catching the last C-Train after staying behind to get autographs. Another memory was someone yelling "Garth, you suck!" before the national anthem when Snow was starting for Pittsburgh.
