Lucic has agreed to waive his NMC for the expansion draft

I think the Flames knew this when they made the trade. But it is cool to know that it's being followed through.
One thing I've been feeling lately though is that Looch may retire before next season as well.
Seeing as he said he was pondering retirement before the trade, maybe he had his swan song, got the silver stick and wants to hang em up. Just a gut feeling I have.
Doubt he gets claimed by Seattle anyways.

Really a no brainer. Puts him in a great light with the team and the fans. Almost no risk to him that he gets taken. And if Seattle for some weird reason takes him, he will be in a city close to his home town, in a no pressure situation, and will be the usual fan favorite.

But yeah, I think it would be better to protect Backlund, so if anything you can trade him and get assets in return. He has more value than Gawdin does.

This makes sense. Treliving and management have always alluded to (in STH meetings/zoom calls) the NMC not being a concern for them for the expansion draft
