I say leave the Heat to play in Calgary. Let them play out of the dome, winsport or the Tsutina Rink. I would love to have another pro hockey option, especially with Flames prospects. NHL, AHL, WHL and the various Junior A clubs bodes well for decent to high level hockey.

Heck, I would support the Heat over the Hitmen(as I don't necessarily cheer for any Dub club), due to the Flames players connection.

Won't happen once they get back to pre-Covid alignment.

The Pacific Division is primarily a California-based bus loop with a few teams in neighbouring western US states.

If it's not Stockton, it'll be another city within that geographic footprint.

Stockton had the lowest attendance in the whole AHL, and the lease is up. I can see a relocation happening.

It's a shame they can't inch up the west coast into Pacific NW states like Washington and Oregon, which would make an outpost like Abbotsford BC viable.

I saw a tweet yesterday that the Devils are expected to move their AHL franchise back to Utica and the Canucks would be looking to relocate somewhere out west.

If they go to Abbotsford, that would further stretch out the AHL's Pacific Division, making it less busable.

I believe the biggest problem the Flames have with Stockton is that a couple of years ago, the Sacramento Kings moved their G-League team to Stockton, so the Heat don't always have access to the rink for practices. As a result, they have to bus to a small community rink in their full gear to practice. Before the lockdown last year, there was talk that they were looking at building a practice rink in Manteca (a small city just south of Stockton), which could potentially also become their main arena too (although, it sounded like they'd still play out of Stockton for the time being).

An Abbotsford Canucks would probably do well at the gate given its proximity to the parent club, but without two or three teams in the Pacific NW to fashion a mini-loop it wouldn't be geographically viable.

Does Seattle have an AHL team yet? Couldn't they play out of, say, the Tacoma Dome or something? Or, perhaps, Portland?

You could potentially have a mini-division with a team in Calgary, a team in Abbotsford, a team somewhere near Edmonton, and a team in Washington/Oregon.

It would be a real shame if the the Heat moved to Calgary at the expense of the Hitmen.

I could see a team in Fresno.

Move back to Salt Lake, The Grizzlies of the ECHL only draw about 4200 in a 12,000 seat arena. Salt Lake needs real pro hockey

Seattle is placing a team in Palm Springs, but will delay it by one season until the arena is completed. For the first year they will place whatever small number of prospects they have with other teams.

The AHL implemented a rule that franchises cannot subsidize travel for visiting teams (i.e. as Abbotsford and St. John's Ice Caps once did). Don't expect any remote, far-flung AHL outposts when things are back to normal.

Fyi, and I'll post this again closer to the actual date, I'll be on the 960 morning show with Pinder on April 30 at 9:25 AM talking all things Heat.

Parsons and Duehr in tonight.

Parsons let in the second shot he faced. Heat trailing 1-0 with 12:41 to go in the first.

Parsons with a pretty decent period! 11 saves on 12 shots. Only goal allowed was in his first minute of game action since March 6, 2020.

For context... Stockton outshot Belleville 29-14 on Saturday but lost 4-1. Garret Sparks allowed three goals on 13 shots. Heat goaltending already off to a better start in this one.

1-0 Moose after 20. Heat being outshot 12-4.

There's still a glimmer of hope for Parsons. I think most fans have him written off at this point, if he could amount to anything for this franchise it would be like found money. Glad to hear he had a decent 1st 20 minutes.

Maybe I spoke too soon... Parsons allows two goals on two shots to begin the second period.

Heat down 3-0.

I still believe in Parsons. He just needs one solid season of being healthy, and I am betting he starts turning heads again. Time is running out, unfortunately, but the kid is such a gamer.

This whole organization is such an abhorration.

Everywhere you look.....it's crap.

Might be time to just bite the bullet and jump off the bandwagon. Not much point taking part in something that rarely brings you any joy.

Heat win in a shootout today! Shortridge with 38 saves (Sparks backing up, Parsons sick with a non-COVID illness).
