Its seems crappy but reasonable for the greater good.
The pretty obvious answer is that it's 40 years later and people's attitudes towards drugs and drug use aren't remotely the same as what they were then, especially among the younger generations.

It's not about drugs though, it's about anything, there is no political upside to doing something that doesnt in and of itself help on an issue that is going to get worse, overdose deaths are going to go up no matter what, all changing the law does is mean Biden owns the ever increasing death toll.

Seriously if you want someone’s opinion on something you should probably just ask them for it without implying that they’re overly defensive and following that up by trying to convince them that you’re not criticizing them.
No, I was not belittling them. One page ago in this very thread I asked the poster and honest question and they took it as an argument. I was genuinely interested in their perspective and wasn't sure why saw my responses as a "rebuttal" and wanted to ensure that didn't happen again.

And unlike Mull, this IS an attack, and I demand you put the defences up!
I wasn't patronizing, I was trying to make sure my intent was clear, as I previously engaged the poster and somehow the poster didn't take it as such.

Below are the quotes in question, I wasn't defending Biden/Harssis but wondering what the progressive left was hoping to be done to fix this. It wasn't a "gotcha" question but an honest one, I assumed there was an answer other than it just sucks. Instead I somehow got the poster on the defense and wanted to avoid it.

Not everything is a fight, insult or attempt to dig at someone.

I was and still am interested in their perspective on AFC's alternative perspective. Its good discussion on a very serious topic which I why I joined this forum.

I engaged rube on this issue because I value their view- as I am far right of them and want to have them help me understand their perspective to see what I may be missing - not because I wanted to take pot shots at them as Pepsi seems to do to me for some reason

Perhaps I got defensives, but you made accusation of me belittling another poster and I felt I should respond to those since I was not.

Woah woah woah. Not everything is an attack I was just making a suggestion, I appreciate your view and was generally interested in your perspective.

You had me convinced when you said you joined a hockey forum to have good discussion on very serious topics.

I never said you made an attack I said you made an accusation, which you clearly did.

Tease me all you want, its whatever but if you're going to throw my own words back at me, at least have the joke grounded in some sort of truth

It's an unfortunate reality, isn't it. It's easy for republicans to politicize and spin a rising death toll into any narrative they see fit, but it's a lot harder for the other side to bring attention to people's lives being unjustly ruined by draconian laws...

Let's get back to newsworthy stuff, shall we?

Biden administration is imposing tough sanction on Russia for documented hacking operations. Finally...

They need to seize the assets of the oligarchs and any rich Russian who has hidden their money abroad. That's the only thing that will bring change.

Not to further derail, but I assure you that younger generations are always softer on drug related crime legislation. When my fathers generation was the younger generation, they were against punishing non-violent drug crime. And then they cleaned up and accrued some cool gadgets and real estate to protect. Drug War legislation, in the States or elsewhere, has always been about fear of the 'other'. The ultimate low risk political grandstanding.

The thing that compounds the problem in the States is that the system of punishment is so broken, that incarceration creates a criminal out of people that are really not when they go in.

If you were to look at 'for profit' jails, it's also financially beneficial to the government to maintain a steady flow of product into the penal system. Biden is keeping the machine going at the expense of the poor and disenfranchised. So, business as usual.

Must not have much longer until he reaches the pearly gates, and is therefore trying to repent and show the good Lord that he has accepted Jesus and turned away from the awful person he was up until last week.
