Should cost the owners cash and maybe all their 2021 draft picks.

Seriously? So the team should be punished for not wanting to play 19 games in 31 days right after a small time of healing? That sounds dangerous to me. These players had the Brazil variant, known for possibly being more dangerous than some of the other hockey outbreaks. I mean, Hughes was bedridden and was being given an IV and we think it’s an okay idea for him to play that often? Coronavirus is a respiratory disease for Christ sakes, and we all know how taxing playing puck is. I think it’a ludicrous to punish the Canucks organization because their players are looking after their health before hockey. If the NHL forces them to play and one player begins to form chronic health damage, even after the season, the league should be seen as responsible.

If one player is responsible for spreading it, it makes no sense then to punish the whole team.

He can go on the IR no? players get hurt and are out all the time.

League is always the bad guy but they are the ones trying to save the business, where does everyone think the money comes from? Its easy to say just cancel when you aren't the ones paying the bills. I have yet to hear a player offer their money back to not play.

He could, but that means he was damn sick, as I was trying to point out. Nowhere enough time for him to fully recover to start playing professional hockey at a safe level. Sounds like other Canucks players were quite sick as well. According to Dreger players are still sick.

An option would be to play AHLers for the Nucks. But I think it’s unreasonable to expect the actual Canucks players to play at a safe level.

Ya any of the seriously affected players should sit. The team can finish the games with a lot of Ahl players. Definitely anyone that is a long hauler should sit out the year.

I don't think the individual players should be punished. The team/organization and owners only.

Maybe the farm team can be a substitute? And any of the players from the Canucks that feel comfortable enough to playon, can. Is that something the NHL would be willing to make happen?

Vancouver patios where people are: sitting six to a table drinking their faces off, shouting at each other, masks off obvs...or...sitting inside a plastic wrapped "outdoor space" six to a table shouting with no ventilation.
This is never going to end.

If players are medically cleared they should play. I hear this talk of injury and being safe and if players are really worried about being injured they should retire as that's part of the game. A player is at risk of injury the moment they step on the ice in any game whether it be exhibition, regular season, or playoffs. That's part of professional sports and the players are highly compensated with their salaries. To me it all comes down to the bottom line is that if they are cleared to play they should do their job.

Dealing with the after affects of covid is not part of the game. This isn't a broken bone or pulled muscle. This is serious and debilitating shock to the respiratory system. Trying to equate it with something that is "part of the game" is ####ing ridiculous.

It's not just that. If one team just didn't do training camp and showed up on opening night and tried to play, they'd get injured at a much higher rate. Hence the need for training camps before the bubble last year. This is arguably worse because at least oh opening night your opponent is probably still getting up to speed, not gearing up for a playoff run.

It now sounds like there would not have been enough guys cleared to play tonight...on top of which (and im not sure why this hasnt been a bigger focus) these guys havent skated for 2-3 weeks.

It would be impossible for them to get lung capacity and legs back to game shape with one practice.

Im guessing this gets pushed back til the middle of next week at best.

That's part of professional sports and the players are highly compensated with their salaries. To me it all comes down to the bottom line is that if they are cleared to play they should do their job.

Well, I’d argue we don’t fully know the aftermath of health effects after getting Covid. Nonetheless a much a different variant than when other hockey teams have gotten covid, nonetheless going back to play when players are still sick (via Darren Dreger) and nonetheless playing in a playoff-like setting. Injuries such as torn muscles, broken bones, ect are part of playing the game; Covid is not.
