I hope when Darryl is teaching he has students that wanna learn. These guys have killed so many coaches that the message by now gets muddled fast.

Darryls way to smart for this and those games that players wanna play. Flames ownership....take note .... Darryls need to be here was because he expressed extreme Interest on taking care of unfinished business.

I got a weird weird feeling something Cool is about to happen here.

 Go Flames.

I'll celebrate the wins when they come, but I really hope they don't get many more. If we were to pick a calling card for this team over this core's reign, it'd be that they like to tease us with hints that they could be good while never actually being good...so I guess I can't complain about them doing what they always do, but that math is not good and it's frustrating to see them play some of their best hockey of the year in what is an almost entirely meaningless stretch of games.

What is wrong with challenging what the poster said? They said it - own it.

A lot of people disagreed with it at the time. So of course it is going to be challenged. Sutter is a great coach, and the team is getting better by the game. Some will put that all on the players, which is fine. Some felt this is pretty much how it would play out, because this is what Sutter does.

Even 4-2-1 and we'd be tied with the Habs now. What a piss off that they squandered all those points against a bottom feeder.

Hopefully they can overcome it. |
When this season is put to bed, it will be their abysmal record against the Sens that will have done them in.

I agree, but the Flames are legitimately better than other teams near the bottom of the standings like Detroit, Ottawa, Anaheim, Detroit, and New Jersey. The Flames really shouldn't be finishing in the bottom 8 or so with the roster they have.

They have a mediocre roster, not a terrible roster. Therefore, the Flames will probably get another mediocre pick. I just don't think it's that realistic to expect the Flames to be way under 0.500 for the remainder of the season.

If you want the Flames to be an actual lottery team, then the Flames should trade away assets for picks. A rebuild is almost necessary.
But I don't think that's going to happen. The Flames will probably make the playoffs next year, and then be bad again in the following year. Because that's what they do.

Sutter is invested in the players, he talks to them like they are his guys and it is personal. Just like when he started swearing when the habs scored that first goal; The guys get that and it ramps up their intensity.

GG would have acted like nothing happened looked at his tablet and would not even call a time out. Sutter is all about being invested in winning. Loved how with a couple minutes left the Flames kept flipping it out to center ice as the Canadians had to keep re-entering back and forth with 6 guys... then boom mistakes started to happen... Coach Sutter has a plan, knows what he is doing!

If the Habs lose all 4 remaining against the Flames, with their own somewhat compressed schedule, I find it hard to believe that they will be .500 in their remaining 9 games that are mostly against the Oilers and the Leafs. So if the Flames sweep the remaining games against the Habs, I’m pretty confident they’re in. But it’s still a very big ask.

Edit: BTW, at that point I was factually correct. Their point percentage under Sutter then was horrible compared to Ward. They didn't look very good on the ice either. But you do you, man. Keep grinding that axe.
 |
Hopefully you understand why your anti-Sutter posts annoyed me, as well as the attempt to use a bad 7-game stretch to paint him in the worst possible light while ignoring his 2 (almost 3) Stanley Cups. Also your posts got quite a number of thanks, so I was worried about how prevalent that kind of "reasoning" was among the fanbase.

But let's move on from this silliness and focus on positives now. Yay Flames!

It is. Montreal has 16 games left. If they go 8-8, they'll gain 16 points in the standings. The Flames are currently 4 points back of the Habs, so they'd need 20 points for a tie (in which case they'd almost-certainly own the tiebreaker).

Let's see, started out the season pretty well, red hot PP, Markstrom looking top tier.

smElliotte breaks the Bennett bomb, team begins to tumble. Start throwing games, uncharacteristically folding after goals against.

Coach canned, team keeps losing abysmally.

Sutter enters, little bump, but revert again to losing abysmally.

Bennett gets dealt....

Draw your own conclusion. I would put more weight into practice time with Darryl, but eh.

Also completely re-working the top-6, and oh, I don't know...splitting up Gaudreau and Monahan

You just know the Habs are going to stock up on loser points, forcing the Flames to pretty much run the table to get in.

 |
Yes, the math stays the same.

But if the Flames were to sweep the Habs, that would mean that, in order for MTL to go .500, they would have to go 8-4 in their other 12 games.

Going .500 is normally easy in the NHL, and you would expect the Habs to do at least that. But that is the interesting thing about this year and the head-to-head play - the Flames will have a lot to say about MTL's record down the stretch.

The team is just feeling and looking different... really want us to climb back in here and with how Montreal looked I think the flames literally hold their destiny in their own hands. There is no deny the type of will and determination Sutter is famous for instilling in his teams and I’m seeing more than just flashes of that now in this team which is great to see. They look like they want it so I’ll sit back and enjoy the ride I can’t cheer for a tank effort I’m not an Edmonton fan and I refuse to be. Give em hell boys let’s sneak in!!!
