Nice return on Bennett. I thought they'd get a 3rd.
Will be interesting to see how the team plays now with him gone. Trade requests typically don't sit well with teammates so who knows.
Plus with the deadline gone all the players can relax a bit.
Here's to a 10 game winning streak and playoffs

Crazy how he stopped taking dumb dumb penalties under Sutter, so thought a trade may have been off the table. However very happy with the return!

Really happy with the return. Swedes seem to work out here.
Can't wait for CP to pick another topic for endless debate
Gonna miss the mustache.

Any time you remove a player from the line up who doesn't want to be there you improve the team. The fact that the Flames got a prospect and a pick out of the mix, that's a bonus and to be determined.

That's a good swing by the Flames, and a good add for the Panthers, too. Fair trade, IMO, given the Panthers aren't afraid to pay going into the playoffs looking really good.
I had Heineman ranked in the 60-70 tier going into the draft so there is definitely something there. Played well this season as a first-year pro, too. Nice to add a player who isn't afraid to get to the paint on his own initiative.
The pick swap nets to about an early third.
Sam Bennett for two early-thirds? That's about right, and probably a bit of a win for the Flames to be honest.

Seattle protection now looks like:
Lindholm, Johnny, Monahan, Mangiapane, Dube, Tkachuk, Backlund (assuming Lucic waives)
Tanev, Andersson, Hanifin
Markstrom
I think Gio is safe, but if not, it's OK. And the Flames should not call up Phillips - hide him from view.

I just don't see it that way.
Nor will I see it as moving a fourth round pick for a huge gain if they trade Gaudreau in the summer.

Another thing to keep in mind, the Flames can probably use Bennett qualify money to sign a similar player

Fantastic return in this market. Players are going for peanuts and many teams are right up against the cap. So far the Flames have an extra 2nd and a 2 extra 3rds. Solid work so far, and the Flames still have their most valuable trade bait left for more work in the off season.

Great return. Now the fanbase can move on from the endless wrangling over what Bennet is, was, or could be. Was so much digital ink ever spilt over a bottom-six winger?

Schleprock again huh?
They added three assets for players that they probably lose for nothing. That's better.
You can select players with them, use them to move up.
No debate the organization is better.

I agree with keeping Phillips as hidden as possible if we aren't going to protect him. Otherwise, play him now with as much opportunity as possible, to see if he's worth protecting over Backlund.

Bennett's playoff performance is what got this done. Doesn't matter at all whether that was him playing to his potential or engaging some other level, the fact is not only has he consistently had a physical impact in the playoffs he has produced at a thirty goal pace.
For Florida that's worth a second round pick and their 16th best prospect.
For the Flames, time to move on and accumulate some assets that have no expansion draft risk.
Win/win.

PO performance (though I agree it's a tad exaggerated) plus he still has a first round draft pick cachet, just like guys like Lazar or or Connolly or Strome for a while. Sam has only played for one team and there's always teams who think "well, he may just need a change".

If every player on the Panthers did well and Bennett plays like himself in the playoffs and disappears in their lineup, it's a huge win for the Flames. It's still a good return right now as is. It'll be good to know that the Flames team as a whole was just pure pathetic during all playoff runs with the current core group and it's not just an anomaly that Bennett outperforms everyone during the playoffs. I'm banking on the Flames to win this deal hands down.
